Marriage - For the Long-haul

amid the chaos....

Jennifer,

My husband and I just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. Certainly not "longtime", but we're working on it…..

I recently read some statistics that indicated that divorced people are just as unhappy since their divorce, if not more unhappy.

I think our culture, in general, is so used to a "fast food" mentality and so used to the technology of having things immediately - instant gratification, that they think it's easier to dissolve than marriage than actually work at it. The thing is, unless crime or abuse is in play, marriage will require some "work", regardless of who you are married too.

Some people think they are married to the "wrong person" but most often, the truth is, they are just looking through the wrong glasses at the wrong person. They should be looking at themselves. Many people are too selfish (not intentionally either) to make a marriage work.

I don't have all the answers, and certainly don't have this huge experience of decades of marriage behind me, but I do know that when it gets tough around our house all I have to do is imagine my life without my husband, and I'm able to focus on the reasons I married him, and the things that are irritating me at the moment fade away.

God Bless you and your husband and your Marriage.
