If I Were President...

The problem in the past hundred years or so is that we have developed a political class. We need to re-instill the idea that working in government should be public service, not a career goal. It should be a sacrifice made willingly by people who are not professional politicians, but ordinary people who will serve and then return to their normal lives. Until we start electing such people, and pruning back the power of these lifetime politicians, we will never head back in the direction of your stated ideal of true representation.
