Doing unto Healthcare as we did unto Education

Excellent!

This is the same point I keep making to my friends and family. We have already seen a shortage or decreasing supply of primary care physicians since Medicaid was enacted. Medicaid/Medicare are the real culprits of ever increasing health care costs. Over regulating the insurance industry as well as mandating coverage by many employers has guaranteed a sure market for insurance thereby raising the price of coverage.

Legislation does not have to state rationing will occur, it merely has to make conditions conducive so that no one wants to enter the health care provider market. Rationing automatically occurs at that point

Incentives vs intentions

Deborah,

Thanks for your comments ..

Leftists believe that their good intentions will automatically lead to good outcomes.

Note: Unlike some conservatives, I don't take the position that all Leftists are 'evil'. That said, I do think that they are misguided ..

With lofty intentions .. "to educate every American child" .. or .. "to heal all Americans" they proceed to create incentives that undermine capitalism. In doing so, they assume that the fruits of capitalism will always exist but can now be re-distributed.

And when, inevitably, the law of causality bites, they draw the wrong lessons.

Observe that:

* when Public Education fails -- Leftists want to throw more money at it

* when Medicare & Medicaid drive up costs -- Leftists want to impose those models on the entire HealthCare market.

* when their well-intentioned policies to encourage home ownership among the poor lead to a market melt-down, they blame everyone else but themselves.

Unfortunately, our electorate is easily swayed by speeches and policies that are long on intentions, but fail horribly in the real world -- where incentives drive human behavior.
