The reason we invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam is to provide a fellow democracy in the area for those arabs pursuing it in Afghanistan to assist the development of democracy there. Saudia Arabia isn't going to help, and Israel would not be allowed to help Afghanistan.

Iraq is also providing us a terrorist shooting gallery where we can use lethal force and not have our hands tied like we would on U.S. soil. We took the battle to the enemy. Granted, there may be as many as 13 Rules of Engagement in Iraq for the military, but the soliers seem to be getting the job done and keeping the terrorists busy there.

When we tried to build a democracy in S. Vietnam in the '70s, it collapsed due to the military pressure from the north because no one in the area was going to help it to defend itself from the communists. The Democrats got us involved there, and it was Tricky Dick who had to clean the mess.
