Meet force with force
The "Meet force with force" approach is legitimate and moral. I'm not sure I agree with your "get criminals killed" argument. Law is an orderly process, and should remain so. Vigilante law is bound to be corrupted and end up in crime. There is a balance. Citizens should be allowed to defend and protect themselves, but law&order should remain the government's responsability.
As far as legalizing drugs...isn't that a little counter-intuitive to your first arguments in favor of reducing crime? Drugs inhibit judgement, twists motivations, and makes people do things they would not do otherwise...like commit crimes to get money for more drugs.

Exactly, I oppose legalization of drugs
But the rest was right on the money. And, Josue, beg to differ with you. Vigilante justice was the only justice some of our forefathers knew. It is only always bad on "Law and Order." Which is liberal tripe anyway, though I still watch it.
Even our laws provide for it to a certain extent. For instance, if I catch some 2 legged animal molesting my child and I hit him with a brick laying on the ground - chances are very high that I would get off. Temporary Insanity.
Don't like that one how about: My old aunt Selma has had her house broken into, I go over there with my trusty Glock. Aunt safe - intruder dead - me out on the street. Self-defense even if it WASN'T my house.
But, I think what Cackalacky is talking about is attrition. If ever criminal commits oh, say 10 crimes, and my dead criminal was only on his 2 = crime is down like 80% or so. Over time. The smart criminals will turn to pumping gas or something.
