The Problem With Invoking Nazi Germany

I know a lot of Germans

I know a lot of Germans. I dated one for a very very long time.

And I can say that Germany as a whole hates its past. They wish they could go back and erase the Nazi years. They have no love for the 1st part of the 20th century and the Germans of today by and large are peace activists in many regards.

The Germans of 1938 were seduced by the talk of a madman. They killed 6 million Jews and they threw homosexuals and political dissidents into the gas chambers along with them.

If the Germans look at Iran clearly (And I know many who do) they would say the same as Israel...these guys are a threat. Anyone who copies tactics of the Nazis, as Ahmadinejad has done can legitimately be compared to a Nazi...and any nation that moves toward fascism to such a large degree as Iran has done can be compared to the Germany of the 1930's.

It is not stooping low to know that war is on the horizon. It is not stooping low to remind Jews in general of what happened in Germany. It is not stooping low to begin getting ready in case Iran should carry out threats that THEY made in the first place. Not just to carry out a war against a neighboring country...but to destroy it completely.

Netanyahu has got it right in many regards.

It seems to me that you are seriously trying to defend Iran. A position which given the facts...is rather indefensible.

Not trying to defend Iran

I admit Iran has a lot of political problems, as well as human rights issues. They have no moral superiority when it comes to a lot of their standings, however, when there's a point of logic that slips through, I'll give them credit. That's another kettle of fish to fry.

It is wrong to constantly throw the nazi card around; it's hurtful to those who actually lived through it, and it never lets anyone heal. If you asked the German you dated how he/she felt about such a comparison, they might cringe. Of course it's a never ending scar on their mind, but the more it's brought up, the more angry some will become. You can't heal if you're always angry, and anger creates extremism.
