Where's Warren?

Where's Warren indeed.....

Hi, Cassandra here. We are about to begin a long national nightmare with no foreseeable "return to normalcy".

I nearly joined Woodrow in the stroke of the month club when I heard that the McCain campaign is saying that these economic hard times are all in my head. Plus according to Phil Gramm I'm officially a whiner. I'm confused. I thought I was a bible thumping, gun toting xenophobe. And now the voices in my head all sound like Obama and McCain. Somebody make the bad people stop!

Skep

I liked this post. And spot on about Bush. Now, I'm serious here, when did McCain talk about raising taxes? That's one that slipped by me.

Sarge and Dave

"I thought I was a bible thumping, gun toting xenophobe."
A talented Cassandra like you can be all those things AND a whiner too! We're Americans. we excel in what we do.

Dave- McCain suggested the other day that we count all money spent by our employers on medical coverage be counted as income; a giant tax increase. His 'cap and trade' Global Warming scheme has been tried in Europe and is a gigantic tax increase. He's walking around proposing all kinds of new programs and if they're implemented the Congress will tack on new taxes to pay for them.

Wow

That's outrageous. Well, another nail in the coffin. What the heck is wrong with that guy?

Good history lesson...if only people nowadays heard about history, never mind read it.
By the time this country recovers from the next two terms I won't be here to see it, assuming it does eventually recover.
The majority of people go merrily on their way, never looking up to see the clouds.

In 1775, the Colonists Thought...

they had it bad with tax rates lower than 6%.

As a Bible-thumping, gun toting xenophobe, I am not sure as to how I will react to tax rates above 50%.

Tax Revolt?

Ghost

If you add up your income taxes, FICA (especially if you're self-employed and pay the full 13%), Medicare and all the state deductions, all the excise taxes on your phone bill, your property taxes, all the taxes you pay for your car, gasoline taxes and sales taxes you're already paying 50%. Thats not even counting indirect taxes charged to companies you buy things from which are included in the price of things you buy. I dont think very many people in the colonies and the early US paid taxes at all, except for indirect ones to merchants who had to pay duties on imports. To quote the famous economist Yogi Berra,
"If Adam Smith were alive today he'd roll over in his grave!"

Dave

I'm voting for him anyway. There's no alternative. I turned on Sean Hannity as I was driving into Hollywood and he was playing Obama saying that $12 a gallon gas doesnt bug him. I'm getting political whiplash. Every time each one of these guys opens his mouth I hate him. Its like watching 'The View' with men. I have to admit Jesse Jackson finally said something I can agree with (although he took it back).

My interpretation of history-- Harding a great President and FDR and Wilson two of the worst-- would not earn me A's in most universities I'm afraid. I stole the concept from Paul Johnson's excellent 'History Of The American People'. When I'm declared dictator I will immediately order Howard Zinn's 'People's History Of America' banned from all public schools.

Zinn Is An Idiot

Skep, someone is posting under the name McLame Hater and I immediately thought of you. Is it you?

BTW, another excellent piece.

From another bitter bible thumping, gun toting, xenophobe.

(When did the definition of xenophobe change to anyone who opposes the invasion of our country?)

Great article! I always enjoy reading your blog, I hope to have the time to read each post.

Right on as well! There is no choice between the two as they now fight to move to the middle. McCain and Obama both move right(haha).

Our financial institutions are starting to go up in flames and this is really worrying me. IndyMac went down today, with the government taking temporary control of the mortgage company. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not far behind and those two together own over half the mortgages in the country. If they go down, well, I haven't researched the exact moment the USSR went down, but if I could imagine it, it would look like this. Our government can no way bail them out and they are already in too much debt as it is. We really, incredibly need a complete conservative for our business sector, but they are nowhere in sight.

Skep, would Romney

make an impact on your opinion of the ticket?

CK

We are definitely headed for hyper inflation. The Big Government Party can only do short-term fixes. Meanwhile the underlying problem--them and their lack of understanding of basic economic laws and history--would be fixed until there is a meltdown.

"Skep, someone is posting under the name McLame Hater and I immediately thought of you. Is it you?"

No. One blog is enough. 'McLame' is a term invented by my Guru, Mark Levin. I learned to love him during the Clinton Impeachment and now, because he has put his radio show on the web, accessable at any time, I listen to him regularly. This is not to say Rush and Sean arent favorites.

Dave

I disliked Romney during the primary campaign for letting himself be lied about by McCain and not responding. None of those guys ever attacked McCain's Amnesty Bill head on. Why? Romney wandered around proposing job-training by the Feds and all the other payoffs to interest groups. He's certainly better than McCain. I'm going to be forced to vote for McCain anyway. Romney would make it easier. Jindal would make it a pleasure.

It looks bleak...

McCain is too stubborn to seize the winning issue and run with it. Gas prices are on everyones radar, left and right. If he threw his AGW and no ANWR positions overboard claiming things have changed. Got Bush to lift the Executive Order on ANWR, probably the only help Bush could give him, and started pounding Obama on oil, he could possibly thump the democrats and coattail some republicans down ticket.

I might even vote for him!

sarge

But he's a liberal. He thinks Global Warming is real. All our eloquent voices are on talk radio or writing columns and books. There is only one party.

Sgt Relic

If those two things were on his radar we wouldn't be against him, as conservatives, as much as we are. You are correct though, if he pushed those two issues, it would be a landslide come November.

Skep

Did you catch T. Boone's idea to blanket Texas with your favorite birdy cusinarts? HaHa!

Sarge

Yeah. It makes you wonder where the Rachael Carson types are. We stopped using DDT because of the dear little birdies (causing millions of malaria deaths) and now we're proposing building acres and acres of giant windmills in their flight paths. Nuke plants now!

Sadly

the only things Warren is remembered for are the Teapot Dome Scandal and this affair he had with a White House maid. A return to normalcy indeed is what we need. It's shameless plug time, new cartoon up.

Righto!

Coal, oil, nukes. These are the resources we have now and proven technologies. Wind (big footprint small generation capacity), solar (see wind, add clouds), ethanol (a negative energy source from corn), hydrogen (no place to fill up yet or a car to put it in) and maybe someday even recycled Hersey bar wrappers, are future energy and will doubtless come with time and research.

That said, I still have to go to the office on Monday and I am not going to get there by sticking an ear of corn in my gas tank, unless of course I push the car to work.
