Why I Am a Catholic

too exclusive

Your comments about the Catholic religion is a bit narrow. Main line Christianity preceeded the formation of the Catholic church. The Bible knows nothing of the word Catholic as it means universal or world wide. The problem comes in the name Roman. This is when the Popes were established, which the Bible does not mention.
You forget that other Christian churches are just as committed to Scriptural truth as you are. Christainity was never meant to be loaded with riches and heirarchy as has happened in Rome and other parts of the world. If we adhere strictly to the New Testament, we find: 1. no evidence that Peter ever went to Rome, he was sent to the Jews. 2. No place is Mary anything more than a young virgin who was chosen to give birth to Jesus, certainly not to be worshiped. 3. Priests can have a wife as did Peter and many other apostles. I could go on but no room. I say these things in kindness. I hope you will examine them.

Ikester, Thanks for your Response

However, you don't know what you are talking about!

I have many articles on this site that address specific points you have raised.

1) The Catholic Church was instituted by Christ. In fact, by the time the new testament was finished, we were on the fifth pope!

See: Catholic Church or Bible, Which Came First?

2) The Primacy of Peter and the Papacy

Please see the biblical analysis on historical analysis here.

3) Regarding celibate priests. Priests can be married in some Catholic rites, including the Latin rite, but the Church follows the example of Christ and the words of the bible by it's acceptance that a celibate priest is preferable to a married priest.
