Cheer Up, Conservatives!

Cheer up Conservatives

It's not likely to happen, but we can hope that the election results will lead to something finally getting done inside the beltway. Your analogy to shooting fish in the barrel just happened to the Republicans. Conservatives, Evangelicals, Republicans, Democrats, Women, Minorities all spoke up and showed thier displesure at the lack of desire from the Republican leadership to keep any of the promises they made in the last several elections. Their lack of any significant (has nothing to do with Iraq here) accomplishments along with the scandals and corruption around the country and withing the halls of Congress led to their demise.

I do hope that both sides will now use this opportunity to find a way to work together towards the important things this country has to face. The concept of the multiple party government is that all sides and viewpoints are represented because there are good ideas within all of them. Our leaders are elected to go forth and incorporate all of this countries ideas together into actions that are good for all.

It is not likely unfortunately as both sides have already started campaigning for 2008 including your comments Julie so if the reality of recent years hold true once again little will be done and two years from now we will be no closer to resolving the issues we have been facing for quite some time.

While the Republicans had huge opportunities for accomplishment that they failed quite miserably at, the failure itself is not party specific but the process. A year ago the talk show hosts were asking people if they were running for president. As long as we are in a constant campaign, the two sides will do all in their power to prevent the other from having any accomplishments vs the need for both sides to say look what we have completed.

There is hope, now let's see what happens. If the Democrats come out in a reach across the aisle mode and the Republicans respond in kind we will get some things done. If not then just more of the same old stuff and we'll be voting for who failed the least or who talks the best game.

Nice piece Julie.
