Some thoughts on this website

Funding watchdogs is definitely a useful thing to do, but I think the most important thing we could do is rally conservatives to punish the media for what they have done to subvert the will of the people.

If we could organize protests against the media, I think we could have a major effect. If, for example, we targeted one network at a time, say NBC, by telling people to turn that network off during sweeps week, we could hit them where they hurt. The same is true of major newspapers. Tell people to read a different newspaper for a month or whatever. We have so many choices these days, if we just focused our protest against one media outlet at a time, it would not hurt any one of us, and it could hurt them immensely.

The same sort of approach could also be used to go after dishonest businesses, like gas stations that are fixing prices, or grocery stores that are not dropping their prices now that fuel costs have gone down. There are gas stations who are not dependent on foreign oil, for example, yet their prices follow those set by oil prices. There is no competition there. If we target a gas station chain by directing people the group to avoid using that station, that will force the station to drop its prices to compete, and this drop will then force other stations to compete, unleashing the power of the free market that has long been missing. Same for grocery stores. If we target one chain of stores, that'll trigger them to lower prices, setting of a price war among all stores.

So while I agree with your idea in principle, I think what we really need is just simply a way to bring the collective power of the people together in a way that can be selectively directed to one problem, then another. This should be something like http://www.wethepeople.org, we domain that's currently just parked and could possibly be acquired.

If we could match the moveon.org method of organizing people and focusing their energy, I think the potential would be incredible.

And another thing...

I posted a blog entry on this subject.

Another thought I had is that maybe such a site could be done in cooperation with GOPTrust.org. I know that PAC had some success in raising money at the end of this election, and they're interested in keeping a website going.
