Oh for just the "illusion" of unity. Alas the vocal few are on a power trip and it is like watching the disintegration of the conservative party in the uk during the ninties...oh and they still are out of power.
So lets give a fond farewell to electability grab our klan pointy hats and practice the politics of hate. I'm off to get myself a machinegun.

Saying What I Really Mean
Jim, well said. As I said to Sanity in another communication, I had a long -- and rather strange -- interview today about Sarah Palin's candidacy for the vice-presidency (and someday, for the presidency). The interview reminded me of how ideologically intense politics in the USA have become. I support Sarah because she's an honest, hard-working, constitutionally oriented person who is a fierce campaigner and a winner. Her job in the nation's highest office(s) would be to make America more secure and, to the degree possible, to enable people to feel more satisfied (well, a little more) about their lives. She should be a healer of divisions, not a creator of them. The presidential and the vice-presidential candidates have to bring the country together, which they're not going to do with ideology but rather with character, compassion, and concern.
As for GWB, he got deeply wounded politically on immigration. Of course that spills over and affects his degree of national support on other issues. Look at it this way: the Dems say they oppose the war but support the troops. That is in fact a meaningless distinction, as Senator Bond, whose son is serving in Iraq, said this morning on CNN. Opposing the War -- and doing so in a politically cynical way -- HURTS the troops. It encourages the enemy. It results in deaths and injuries to American soldiers. Senator Kit Bond was too gentlemanly to say that, so I'll say it for him.
Speaker Pelosi wants to fight the War in Afghanistan. Why? Because the polls haven't yet turned completely against it? And what about when the "polls" show diminished support for that effort? Then, like John Edwards, the Dems may declare the WOT an illusion. If we close our eyes and wish upon a star, there will be no bin Laden, no al Qaeda, no mass murders.
I guess this is why I'm not a big fan of the Dems.

Love that spirit!
Actually I'm feeling pretty good after watching the dems self destruct in their overnighter...think this may be great news for us.
Also, the surge is working according to General Patraias (sp?)today on Hughe's show...things may just start truning our way.

Wouldn't it be nice if people would realize we may not survive as a nation with the dems in power?...Just look at the overnighter in the Senate...that's got to tell ya somethin'...

you really ARE a fountain of optimism!
I, unfortunately don't see much hope unless we have a couple of people on the GOP ticket that can and will tell Ingraham and Hewitt to park it where the sun don't shine.
Which is why I am trying to get Palin on the ticket as VP. The woman reminds me of Jeb Bush in that she won't pander toward the media. I have very few complaints about Bush but one of them is his "Christian" need to get along--and I'm a Christian.
I think that sometimes you have to walk away. If I was advising the president, I'd tell him to close up access to Ingraham and company. I'd make it clear to the insiders that RINOs with selective loyalty are not welcome--and if they want to lie...they can do it without any help from the administration.
And I am really sorry Sheila...but I no longer accept anyone's claim to supporting fighting the WOT when they listen to the RINO media talk about accepting 8 years of not fighting the WOT--and they don't extend a tenth of the anger they did over the illegal immigration issue.
I'm with Jim...don't be shocked if L.A. lies in a heap of dust...and these guys are STILL talking about illegal immigration--and how it's all Bush's fault.

Jim,
wow, I'm honored. You rarely comment on my blog...it's mostly on Sandra's or Sheila's...mmm...
ABout the pointy hat...unfortunately that IS what Independents and many Democrats think of the GOP...and they may NEVER recover from this ignominy.
And what was gained? Oh yeah...the SAME old Reagan UNENFORCABLE laws...smart.

Sanity, I'm on Radio!
Hey, I'll be on radio tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 p.m. (EDT), discussing Sarah Palin's candidacy. You can find it on your computer by going to:
http://politicalpistachio.blogspot.com/
Just turn the sound up and call in if you'd like.
As you know, Sarah has been in Kuwait, Iraq (I think), and Germany this week.

Sanity, loved hearing you on radio! My accent: western New York state (Rochester & Buffalo) upbringing. It never goes away, even after all those years in VA, GA, OK, and PA.

Yep, about 10 mins into it
I called to point out that some of the greatest leaders were women...Maggie Thatcher and Golda Mier...not to mention Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth and Queen Catherine of Russia.
Funny how many times people keep insisting that a woman can't lead--and how many times history proves them wrong.
Palin may not turn into a "great", but for those who likes glitz and glamour, she's a "promise"...for those who have issues, we're given 8 years to "test" the product before we buy.
And I'd rather spend 8 years fighting the WOT than fighting a Democatic WH and Congress.

Famous for 15 Minutes
Yes, Sanity and I are now authentic radio talk show celebrities (famous for 15 minutes?). It is available on archive at PoliticalPistachio.blogspot.com/
Sanity was wonderful. She always is. I love her new "definition" column.
Sarah is going to be a wonderful V-P and, eventually, President. As they say in the commercial, "And we hepped!"
