Study the history of the area sometime and you find child sacrifice to be extremely common. The Amalekites, among others, sacrificed live children to their fire god. When Amalekite mothers began to object to their children being killed this way, the Amalekites started kidnapping Hebrew children during the Exodus, then later in Canaan. Lovely group of people, the Muslims. Great ancestral tree they spring from!
