Don't Make It Personal

While I ,also am not a McCain supporter,I do agree with you here. We have MORE than enough policy disagreements with him.The only things I see different with McCain than Obama are the Iraq situation, and the WoT in general, and McCain would be more likely to support military issues than his opponent. In my humble opinion,Obama is just another Euro-socialist to be defeated.

Also agreed, Flag

I don't attack candidates, either Obambi OR McRINO, on ad homina bases. It's purely a policy issue for me, too.

But I have to say, based on my experience in thread discussions on the main columns, that right-based invective is much more likely to be hurled by McCain SUPPORTERS than opponents.

Most of his conservative opponents (such as me) oppose him for the reasons you stated, and are then subject to all kinds of ad hominem attacks as "traitors", "liberals", "conservative fanatics", "trolls", "KOS spies", ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

I spend a lot more time on those threads than you, I suspect, and I hear that stuff all the time.

Gents, I have noticed for the entire campaign season that the GOP backers have been doing a lot of name calling. It started with anyone opposing Giuliani, then anyone opposing Romney, now anyone opposing McCain...and I won't even go into the Paulines! It's true that I don't post a lot on the threads anymore, but I read a lot of the articles and comments...which is why I don't do much posting anymore. I am just not in the frame of mind to have my conservatism questioned because I am not willing to support a non conservative candidate. But one thing that all of this has shown is just how riven the GOP really is between the people who are "movement" conservatives and those who back the Party with almost unquestioning loyalty.

Well, I agree with your premise, but

but I can't really say I've seen too many people questioning McCain personally, and most of those that do are folks who tend to be less than polite period. My experience is more like Brian's, I've seen some vile stuff directed at folks like him, Pasphil and Virginia Daddy who have done nothing but state their policy differences with McCain and that they won't vote for him.

That seems to be what drives the Party loyalists and Obma must be stopped at all costms crowd nuts, the part of saying you won't blindly pull the lever for whatever has an R after their name. That's when the name calling, the you're helping elect Obama and bring about the end of the world, you're a DNC plant stuff seems to start. It seems to me that the politics of fear does work with some folks in both parties.

Got to agree with you also on the threads, and lack of postings thereto. I NEVER take it personal what someone types in their keyboard about me. As I posted to one of the trolls a while back, all I see are words on a screen which mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G to me.Kinda like water off a duck's back.

I see what you're saying...literally. But I have also seen a lot of people who are way too quick to question McCain personally and not confine it to the isssues. I am not saying that this is the prevailing theme at TH and this post wasn't aimed just at TH posters, but from people all over the web. I mean, when people start to question McCain's integrity because his first marriage dissolved, that is just going a bit far IMO. And that's the type of thing I', talking about; if it were his mariage to Cindy McCain that was falling apart now, then it would be relevant because it is very hard to concentrate on anything else when you are having marital difficulties. But what does a marriage that has been over for a couple of decades have to do with anything going on today?
