Tax Me More? Not Quite.

Representative Gov.

It always amazes me how people vote as opposed to how people live. The old arguement of, make people write a check for taxes instead of taking it out of their pay. Also, make everyone regardless of income pay a flat tax.

Think about it, people under $25,000 don't pay (federal) taxes. I'm not saying that's absolutely wrong, but decision making in voting is altered if you don't pay taxes.

O' and foley is scum as republicans now have to say before and after everything they say, oy.

Tax payments and voting

You are right; many people don't pay federal income taxes. In fact, they get a check, through the "earned income tax credit."

It should be noted, however, that anyone with wages does pay taxes for Social Security. In addition, government regulations affect the cost of doing business, and thus a person's wages--so the working poor do bear some of the burden of government.

That said, a person's tax payments certainly can be one important factor in determining who he votes for.

Wait now

SSI taxes and Medicare taxes are payroll taxes yes, but as you mentioned, earned income tax credits were created to offset those taxes for low incomes. I do not have a handle on the tax system to say how much.

But those taxes will (are supposed too) benefit them in later life.

I'm not saying the poor have it good, I'm just saying they don't pay federal taxes.

Tax Me More?

I am not sure where you people are getting your information, but Social Security and Medicare are paid for by the individual it is suppose to benefit, and I use suppose to benefit loosley. I am seventy years old, have worked since I was fifteen, took a few years off working full-time, I did work part-time, to give birth and get them in shcool; and, my fantastic Social Security check amounts to a whopping $477.00 a month. My Medicare, Supplement Insurance and prescription Insurance cost are close to three hundred a months plus out of pocket for the cost which Insurance does not cover is close to one hundred and fifty a month--and I am considered to be in exceptionally good health.

I work twelve to fourteen hours a day, five days a week and pay state, federal and social security taxes on $16,000. income. In fact, my tax bill this year will run approximately $4,900.

Who doesn't pay taxes? What planet are you living on? Your problem is you make too much money to know what the other half has to do.

Thank God for children who are willing to help.

No, Iam not on Welfare. I raised three children in this city, after their father died, and I never accepted one dime of state assistance. I did however receive $145. a month per child from Social Security. I believe their father and I have contributed more than they received.

By the way I don't accept heat assistance either. Yes, I am cold, but I am not a chairty case, or poor for that matter. I do pay taxes.
