Gold standard
The problem with the gold standard is its inflexible. It's good for inflation, but economic downturns become worse. It's not bad to have a lot of gold, just not all gold.

Gold Standard and everything else
The fact that the gold standard is inflexible, means that the government will be forced to halt deficit spending and inflating the currency.
The CIA should be under the control of the DoD, so it is under Congressional oversight.
I am against the Patriot Act because blanket and wireless invasions of privacy are not desirable. This is exactly the power that was used by the King of England to enforce the Tax Stamp Act, from which revolutionaries claimed to be taxed without representation and also the reason for the inclusion of the 4th Amendment within the Bill of Rights.
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." - 4th Amendment
I am against the War on Iraq because we didn't declare war. We went in to Iraq to enforce UN resolutions, which we did, and to depose Saddam, which we did. Since we should have never gone in, and we achieved our military objectives, we have already won our undeclared war. If we shouldn't have gone in, we should leave. If we have achieved our military objectives, we should leave. No matter how you slice it, it's time to leave.
I'm voting Ron Paul because Giuliani is too socially liberal, Romney is a flip-flopper, McCain is an big-government apologist, and nobody else has enough support to beat a Democrat.

Gold standard does not stop deficit spending. Why would it? Plus like I said it is unrealistic with an economy of todays size. No major Currency is gold backed in the world.
CIA should be seperate from DOD because then it is outside DOD politics and spooks are not Soldiers or marines. We have our own DIA and the intelligence forces in each service. CIA role is different and the civilians in it should never be under the control of the generals.
patriot act listens to calls from non-citizens overseas into the US. The calls are only used in cases of terrorism not other criminal activity.
No need to declare War, for operations in Iraq to be legal. Congress authorized use of Force. The number of times we used force in the history of the country is much much higher then the declared wars.
Pres Washington set the standard during the "whiskey rebellion" of use of Force without declaration of War, and it has been used ever since.

Ron Paul vs Ron Reagan
Saw several posters saying Ron paul was like ROn Reagan so i Posted this.
Representative Paul wants to Pull us out of foreign entanglements.
President Reagan built the Military to especially include Over Seas forces AND he invaded Grenada (oh my, without congressional approval OR Declaration of WAR I might add)!!! How is that like Rep Paul?
Pres Reagan built up the CIA and Rep Paul wants to cut back on its powers.
Pres Reagan ran against illegal Imigration but then comprimised and gave us an Amnesty Bill. Rep Paul?
I voted for Pres Reagan and joined Army while he was CIC. Reagan inspired me. He had people like Al Haig working for him, not exactly the type Rep. Paul would choose.
Pres Reagan nominated Allan Greenspan to the FED. Would Rep Paul have done so?
I have been to his website and read his debates, I researched his positions and Pres Reagan he is NOT.

Another Ron Paul Discussion
Well at least the guy get people talking.
Rhys: I could care less about social issues. Without a strong National Security and secured borders my friend, it isn't going to matter.
Rob: Veil: Woodward, Bob Veil: The Secret Wars Of The Cia, 1981-1987 is a very interesting book on the CIA, I am sure there are others, I found it fascinating reading. But then again I would.

Ron Paul
Tinsldr2,
I think Ron and Dennis the Midget were twins separted at birth. So the kindest thing we can do is reunite them and place them in the same padded room. I'm sure it will be a good reunion and they will be thrilled to have found a close contact. Let's just not tell them the reason the walls are all padded in white. It can be explained as a Mr. Clean moment. We don't want to upset them in anyway. It just causes more insurance charges.

As predicted....depression is coming
Had to go back and read some of your old comments. The weimar republic coming to a world near you. Rome will crumble. Destruction is heaped upon us.
Your support of the Federal reserve system will end your time in the military...you will be fighting with imaginary bullets for that is all you the US military will be able to afford.
As to Cajun Maverick on this page....have to laugh. How's the fiat money going to turn this puppy around?
Read History, and if not history, read:

One way or another, we will return to sound money....perhaps when you are burning your pension or 401K whatever in your fireplace to keep warm.
