The irony here is that soldiers are not allowed to carry personal firearms on the installation, despite the similar massacre at the Lubby's in Killeen several years ago. It was pointed out then, and remains true today, that had anyone other than the gunmen been armed, likely the outcomes wouldn't have been so horrendous.

As a Texian, I appreciate your...

I don't know this young lady at all, but I will tell you this, somewhere a daddy is both very worried over his little girl and at the same time extremely proud of her. It's just the way we are.
He's also hoping that if the scum bag that hurt his baby girl lives then Daddy should get 5 minutes alone with him, assuming there is any justice in this world at all. Like I said, it's just the way we are around here.

I don't think my keyboard had cooled off before you posted those comments!
So knowing 17 yr olds, (my brother is a Sergeant E-8) there needs to be rigid control of firearms at an army base. But even if only officers had guns, this incident took place where enlisted men were getting medical checks. And it was an officer shooting.
The Pakistan example was similar, no firearms on the base, not even the generals. But as you can see, it is too easy to bring in firearms, either illegally, as in Hasan, or forcefully, as in the Taliban.
Maybe, like ripstop-nylon fabric, there should be a certain number of guns sprinkled strategically around. Like on policemen.
Maybe Ft Hood was the ideal.
