National Health Care

I wrote about this, also. (See http://maverickbarracuda08.blogtownhall.com/2008/10/04/the _buffet_syndrome__if_government_ran_healthcare.thtml.)

There is a real difference between health insurance and health care. Obama is promising insurance. I believe that many in his constituency are interpreting that as free health care. I believe many people will be surprised at the copays or coinsurance that they will have to pay.

And did I hear him right in the debate? No exceptions for pre-existing conditions would be allowed? Then why would anyone pay for coverage until they are actually sick?

I work for an insurance company. Financial decisions about healthcare (coverage amounts, premium rates, etc.) are based on actuarial mathematics. Outlawing pre-existing conditions will put private companies out of business, and the federal government will have to bail out another industry.

The gentleman who wrote: " Financial decisions about healthcare (coverage amounts, premium rates, etc.) are based on actuarial mathematics." is exactly why we in America do not have proper coverage for those who need and do not have. I cretainly grant profits, but what have profit companies done in terms of contributing to those that are without?

I think the model is the PGA. Every tournament contributes a portion and sometimes all the profits to charities - for those who do not have. Now all these individuals are self empolyed - they make the cut or do not make any money. And oh yes- they provide for themselves and their families health insurance - even Tiger does. But Tiger also ensures - or "insures" that those who can't - can.

Seems insurance companies should as well for those who can't. Why don't they?
