George Washington No Isolationist

Libertarians and leftists suffer from a common malady: A myopic view of history.

They giddily cite George Washington (usually his "foreign entanglements" speech) as if he were some sort of isolationist.

Bunk. Washington's "foreign entanglements" speech was a direct political jab at Thomas Jefferson's French-leaning foreign policy. Washington favored maintaining and improving Anglo-American relations, and did not consider an Anglophile policy to represent "foreign" entanglements. His use of "foreign" was as in, 'alien to our Anglo roots.'

Washington was an aggressive expansionist, which is an aggressive foreign policy of aggressivbely extending our interests outsisde out borders, using the military aggressively if necessary.

Reality sucks when you're myopic.
