There are several groups advocating an upside down flag on July 4. Some for patriotic reasons and some to protest US policies.

The VFW, VA, Vietnam Vets, and many others RIGHTLY remind us that the flag is only to flown upside down as a sign of DIRE emergency such as a sinking ship, a squad pinned down, incapacitating wound, etc.

You are likely to have a bunch of flag loving folks in your face if you do it.
