Baseball and Life in General

Baseball and Life

It's not that baseball is just boring, because I'd rather watch historical documentaries on practically anything (and I do, and these can be very boring) than watch grown men play baseball. It has to do with why people watch sports in the first place. I could go into the psychological reasons for why I think grown adults watch sports, but that would be speculative psychologizing. I'll just say that it's always appeared obvious to me that there's a "loser-ish" quality to sports fans (not that all sports fans are losers, I'm just speaking in general terms about the activity itself).

Beyond that, I'd say it's based primarily on physical prowess (although I understand there are strategic aspects to most sports, but let's admit it: they're not chess), and I just don't think those are that important qualities -- not admirable.

When I was a boy, I used to love to play baseball. I think baseball is a great sport for boys (or girls) to play. But no matter how much people, even very smart ones who I respect, try to make WATCHING baseball and other sports interesting, it still looks obvious to me that, with only a few exceptions (like courtside seats at a good NBA game), it is a dumb activity best left to children to do play.
