most of Hollywoods product is demeaning and stereotyping of average Americans. This is why people like Obama (who probably get their view of America outside of the priviledged circle they live among from movies and music) are so clueless about the rest of us.

They see "October Sky" and think that the people in the coal mining towns are miserable until they get out. They see "A Perfect Storm" and think that Fishermen are miserable and die because of global warming. They see "Pleasantville" and decide middle America is sexually repressed and naive. Then they try to forcibly enlighten us.

There is one of two possibilities, either Hollywood mirrors society, or they parody it. I think they clearly do the latter.
