Comment on: The Ramblings of an Average American

Rats Abandoning the Ship

I don't buy it

I don't believe that many people want to lose. And the reports are saying things are starting to succeed, hence the full court press by the Enemedia and the Dems and RINO cohorts to lose while we still can.

Welcome back!!!!!

A great analysis. The split in the GOP over immigration and other issues is dangerous for the country!

We have accomplished a lot in Iraq, and in the WOT, despite the Dems, the MSM and the "fortress America" crowd.

United we stand, divided we fall! God bless America and our brave troops.

My great concern is...

...we allowing Iraqi security forces to pursue and destroy the insurgents/terrorists in their own way? Using their methods? Or are we trying to superimpose our PC, UN Charter method of waging war on them? We might disapprove of their methods but these may be the only methods that will actually work. We need to give them the weapons, equipment and training and then let them go. Offering only backup support. Great indepth piece here "Above Average American". DD

The last disagreement

I remember going thru this BEFORE 2006 over the Miers borking and the Dubai port deal...but as with Dave and Sheila...the others could not foresee the American public giving Congress to the Dems.

Well they have and perhaps, we could have allowed the "damage" of 2 years of the Dems show the American public how "bad" it can get, except the Right was right in there AGREEING with the Dems that the GOP is c-rap and it's all George's fault.

Sorry Wil, the only way I can see past this is if the Right takes a critical look at the RINO press and ask just what were they trying to accomplish in this latest joint venture with the MSM over Bush and the GOP's "failures"?

And if the only answer is "better ratings", then tune out, turn off these negative pushers and look for those who will put the WOT on the front burner--and KEEP it there until we win.

Wil

I've a post up that explains my reasoning for NOT allowing the selective supporters of Bush and the GOP to slide...but let me ask you (and your friends) this:

How do we win the WOT with one or two cycles (4 to 8 years) of a Dem Congress AND a Dem president?

I believe that you, Dave, Jevica, JC, Scottie doesn't think that's possible.

Yet Hugh Hewitt said that a possible 8 years of Democrats that WILL NOT FIGHT OR WIN THE WOT is needed...

And NONE of you guys blinked.

Why?

Sanity

I never heard Hugh say that. It is summer, my schedule is different, and I have not heard his show since early June. If he said it, I disagree. The logic behind it is it took 4 horrific years of Carter to make Reagan viable. "Moderate" Republicans like Ford held sway in the party, and only when Carter failed so miserably did the real conservative stand a chance. That was bad enough. I am convinced that 8 years of Carter would have ended America as we know it. But to give the country over to a Democrat now is to invite disaster, I agree.

But let me ask you two questions: You say your one issue is the war. Four Republicans voted with the Democrats for the vote to demand troop withdrawals. 1) If one of the four was in your state, would you support a primary opponent of that Senator, even though they would be a weaker candidate in the general election? In other words, is party label or the issue more relevant to you?

Second, I see you so angry at the "absolutes", that you want to disallow their membership in the Republican club. You want them cast into the outer darkness because they opposed the President on issues unrelated to the war, thereby undermining his credability on the war. Do I understand you correctly? 2) When you say don't allow those who opposed Immigration reform to slide, what do you mean?

Public flogging?
Removal from the party?
A Red A sewn on their sweaters?

Please answer these two questions. I believe that SOME of the tone and manner of dissent from the President on immigration was overboard and damaging, but I also believe he was unwise to categorize all who disagree with him as nativist. Your premise that to support the WOT, you must support all policies of the President seems pretty restrictive as well.
