In fact, I have read state of fear. Its quite good. If you surf around Dr. Crichton's site for a while, you'll turn up all kinds of good stuff. He is a scientist, but more so, he teaches actual science: educating his readers rather than simply saying "Yes, I am an authority, so listen to me..." For example, the actually explains why the Drake equation and anything similar cannot be real science. He explains the difference between science fact and consensus.

Once again proving that the best tool against liberalism is intellectual honesty.

I'm a Crichton fan but missed that one (and wasn't familiar with the nuclear winter story).
