A short story to prove your point.
I was a tour guide for several summers. I met busloads of people from the midwest. Since I lived on the east coast these people were a whole new breed for me. I used to tell people these midwesterners restored my faith in America.
So often we forget that between the idiocy of the east coast and the west coast there is a whole country full of real people who act just the way you told about in this post. It's too bad that the freaks get more attention than the ordinary Americans.

Why am I having so much trouble getting these posted?? The Post Your Comments isn't working too well! But it may be my side.
I have tried 3 times and will now try again!
The other posting I wrote got printed in this list but not on the list of comments on the right.
