Tree Hugger Travesties

This shows that it does not matter what evidence or proof against their pet theories you bring up THEY DON'T CARE.

They will keep moving the goal posts, or just telling you how you are mistaken [look at the food problem caused by ethanol mandate], they will let you know hell we can't be wrong, we are doing it for the "common good.

Georgetwin

Glad to hear about your lovely wife. Please send her my regards, and try not to make her laugh for a while!

It is my deep belief that the ecowhackos and the left are just trying to cripple this country, and slowly cause our demise. This is a perfect example of how they want to do away with our economy.

Thanks for the essay!

Bears Are OK

A few years ago in the hills of the San Fernado valley in LA there was video of a black bear who tipped over a trash can, liberated half of an uneaten pizza and then lowered himself into a hot tub to enjoy his meal. Isnt nature beautiful?
We all know what a bunch of bogus crap all this enviro-hooey is but every time anybody talks any sense the media shows pictures of polar bears 'stranded' on a melting ice flow. Of course, in the brief twenty-four hour sunless summer in the Arctic ice melts but polar bears can swim a hundred miles in open ocean easily but when you're dealing with a nation of TV-watching saps it doesnt matter. If only there was a political party which was objecting to this idiocy.

Georgetwin

I agree with much of what you say and share your frustration with treehuggers and environazis. But the energy problem is much more complicated than you are making it. I wrote "The BIGNESS of Big Oil" last December trying to start an intelligent conversation about it to no avail. All it got me was kudos from a best selling author and lots of supportive comments from one reader. I'm currently in a dog fight at Powerline with a "chartist" on this issue and once again, I dealing with someone who has reduced the entire problem to one factor: speculators. Ethanol is a mess right now because everyone in DC is in the "tank" (nyuk, nyuk) with Archer Daniels Midland so it has become a corn subsidy scam. There will be a shake out but their are good and important ethanol facilities being built out that will accommodate biomass ethanol. The subsidy issue is so tangles that we really should eliminate them all and start again from scratcy. EVERYTHING is subsidized and most of it is needless but that is how Big Gov plies its trade. Corruption.

I don't know how this will all work out but everyone has an axe to grind and very few want to have an intelligent discussion about it. That is why the price of oil and gasoline will continue to climb. It is the only factor that gets people to change.

OOPS!

I meant '24 hour NIGHTLESS summer'. I wrote 'sunless'.

Pasadena Phil

If ethanol is so great why not eliminate the tariffs which prevent cheap Brazilian sugar-based ethanol from being imported? Not doing that proves that the domestic ethanol program is ONLY a scam.

skep41

Ethanol itself, whether its sugar or corn, is a problematic short-term solution. I'm all for eliminating energy subsidies. They are distorting the economics. I also don't see why trading one foreign energy dependency for another solves anything. It's not all "wine and roses" in Brazil either.

The scam part of ethanol will disappear once the dry mill (bootleggers) process is rendered useless by the wet-mill (biomass) process. Most of the ethanol facilities and companies currently operating will not exist in two years. ADM is a scam all on its own and could require putting a quite a few politicians to shut them down. There are ethanol operators who are calling for the end of subsidies across the board.

In any event, ethanol will always be a small part of the solution. The fact that no one wants to face is that the days of cheap oil are over, there won't be many countries exporting oil very soon and we need to invest in EVERY alternative until we develop a big solution which could take more than 50 years. That is not my opinion but the conclusion of several expensive and comprehensive studies.

Georgetwin

I disagree with Pasadena Phil, oil can be relatively inexpensive again ($1.90 to about $2.85 in 2008 dollars) if drilling starts RIGHT NOW! But it will take 3 to 5 years.

BUT HE IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT IN THE FOLLOWING:

"we need to invest in EVERY alternative until we develop a big solution, which could take more than 50 years"

Cold fusion, hydrogen power (i.e., water fueled), and "minature" nuclear reactors are a few of the items that could be the "Big Solution". We must also go back into space and start colonies on the Moon and Mars.

For 30 friggin' years the Liberals have held us back with their thirst for Power. I am ready for it to stop.

GGhost-PPhil

MORE DOMESTIC OIL WILL send prices into a nosedive. As I have said on NUMEROUS occasions, liquefying Methane culled from Sewage Treatment Plants is the ONLY Long Term Solution that take The Law of Unintended Consequences out of play.

Georgetwin, Greyghost

While more domestic oil will have a dampening effect on price but it will force a lot of expensive oil out of the market too. All of the shale oil and those wells that have started pumping again will go out of production and that is a lot of oil. You are right that it will take 3-5 years (more on average) until that oil starts showing up but by then, oil could be substantially than it is now. So oil at $1.90 (I really need to see those calculations. Michelle Bachman's numbers are a fantasy) will never happen. We might see a dip below $3 at some point in the near future but we are on our way much higher before they stabilize. The real question is not guessing how high they will go but where they will settle once stability returns to the market. Unfortunately, there is nothing that suggests that it will be lower than where they are now.

Remember, oil is much more important in the long term for non-energy purposes like medicine, synthetic materials and fertilizer. It is important not to burn too much of our reserves on our way to energy independence so that we still have lots of it left to keep it cheap. At some point, it might get very cheap again but by then, hopefully, it will be illegal to burn it.

This is all just opinion when predicting the future but returning to low prices is really not possible without some sort of catastrophic event to wipe out half of the planet.

PPhil

Low/Cheap is a relative term. Obviously prices increase over time as costs increase and I don't expect to see oil much below $100.00 a barrel. HOWEVER, if we can create SYNTHETIC MMotor Oil, then using if for NonEnergy related purposes and liquefying Methane to use for Energy Purposes shouldn't be all that hard.

My only thing about ethanol...

...is that the U.S. "could" use corn and grain the way the Saudi's use oil. As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong) most nations in the world have a difficult time raising grains. And no one can do it like the U.S. farmer (especially in the midwest). Am I correct in that conclusion? Raising much more than we can use. Well that being the case, I say keep these ethanol plants a-going and come up with some fake scale of measuring polution. In other words when the price of grain needs to go up [hence bringing foreign money into the U.S.], well coincidently will the need to reduce polution in certain U.S. cities, also hence increasing the amount of ethonal into the nations fuel supply. All for the purpose of reducing polution, mind you. In other words, we'd be the OPEC of corn. Manipulating the grain markets for the purpose of keeping foreign currency coming into "our" nation, reducing the trade deficit, etc. Which would be the true and unspoken motivation. Am I making any sense here? What a switch that'd be. DD

Of course

It's a scam!
I'm just disappointed I didn't know it earlier, when I could have gotten in!

I agree, though. End all subsidies, and let the market work itself out. Drill wherever you want, if you think it's financially feasible.
I'll say it again: I won't be satisfied until I can drill in my back yard, and refine it in my garage!

My favorite hobby is burning gasoline. My second favorite is eating beef. This weekend I did both. These kooks moan all day about jobs going overseas, but I guess roughnecks don't need jobs here. Or loggers, or steel workers, or miners. I have an idea, we could set up c-span in Moscow and see how long it takes for anyone to notice. Then we could outsource congress.

D Dowdy

That is a fine idea & all your facts are well founded. However, the negative effect of Ethanol on vehicles is still The Biggest LONG TERM problem. I know farmers who have modified vehicles to run on propane with NO DEGRADATION of performance or negative impact on engine parts.

EMAIL your Senators & Congressmen and DEMAND they do as you suggest in The STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS!

KenUSA

Those are 2 of my favorites also :)! My mother still lives in West Virginia. When I visit her, all I hear from my Coal Miner Cousins is,” Democrats are for The Working Man! These coal companies are leaving West Virginia/America because they are Anti-Union!” and other UMWA myths that are accepted as facts. EMAIL your Senators & Congressmen and DEMAND they throw The Enviro-Nazi Agenda under The Bus.

THANK YOU for stopping by :)! New Faces are ALWAYS welcome at CSC!

What fun

it is to see the ridiculous nature of their positions...

New post up on Pakistan, the next "Hot" spot.

There'd be a few kinks ...

...to work out for sure GeorgeT. Like a 4th selection on each gas pump. You know, regular, super, diesel and "green". Let the tree huggers use that crap in their hybrid's. etc. Or make all gov't vehicles use it. I'd love to go back to leaded gas myself. DD

An AGRESSIVE Drilling Program smoothes out ALL the wrinkles at once.

More articles up at my blog.

Come by if you get a chance.

Georgetwin

Just back late Thursday from vacation almost 3 weeks! My son & I had our b'days yesterday. How is Monica doing? I hope everything is going well.

I have a vacation blog, I'm tired of the BHO news that doesn't get reported. That and all the left wing writers and newspaper people.

Hi Georgetwin

I thing this energy crunch was deliberately encouraged by the Left to ruin the American ecconomy.
The Carbon tax is exceptionally regressive and will have the most impact on working poor.

A breakdown of law & order to go with economic depression?
Could it begin from this?

If you get a chance stop by and read my article entitled "After Shocks: D.C. vs. Heller".

I think there is a consequence of this ruling that the Looney Left and the Liberal Elites will hate.

Georgetwin

Posting a map to your home was not the cleverest thing you can do here at TH.

EVERYONE here at TH now has access to that map.
Whether or not HalD will shy away from it, there are those here who might endanger you and/or your family by using that information.

You will keep us posted about profane writing on your sidewalk with spraypaint? Tires being slashed? Auto paint being keyed? Dirty words on your lawn with weedkiller? etc.?

Do you think you are dealing with "Standup Guys"?

GT: Are you serious about this.....

"Mr. Elizabeth Edwards getting caught with another woman."

Or are you just pulling the lib's chain?

Anne

Google 'John Edwards Love Child' and see for yourself.

Hey GT...

Where you keeping yourself? Give me a shout the next time your around.

Ethanol

Ethanol is not particularly popular with treehuggers because it takes as much fuel to create as it offsets. What you left out is that crops require petroleum based fertilizers to grow. The crops then need to be trucked to distilleries, which after fermenting the mash must then boil to separate water from alcohol(you got that part right.) Growing crops for ethanol drives up the cost of food causing this and a host of other unintended consequences Ethanol is not derived from water, it is separated from water in the distilling process. Water that is retained by the alcohol is released during combustion and not before. The condensate harms the exhaust system. This includes the catalytic converter, increasing polution. These are all reasons so called treehuggers reject Ethanol, contrary to your claims

As for drilling for more oil. What I wonder is why there are fields in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas and even Texas that have hardly been completely exploited, regulations and gov. interference are non-issues in these areas. You wouldn't know this because you are too interested in soundbites on Fox News to dig deeper. I am a liberal and I work in PR for an Oil company proudly. Oh and refineries as well as a strong dollar would go a long way to bringing the cost of gas down but that seems to get left out of the discussions for the most part too.

Gov. Sarah Palin has been selected by McCain as his VP running mate. Details at my site.

Georgetwin

I saw your comments to Gunny concerning Hal on Michelle Maulkin's article.

I will keep Hal in my prayers and will find some way to work it into my blog tomorrow. It has been a long, but exciting day, so I am off to bed in a few minutes.

Don't worry, some how it will be on my blog tomorrow. I agree with you, if I follow Jesus, I can do no less than He would.

PS: Don't forget, you promised me an article. Why don't you do one on Sarah Palin? (or Alaska, I have always wanted to visit that state)

Got that Hillary

She says she'll vote MAC got the email nothing confidential here huh?!

Hillary

Lib swears she'll vote R. Checked out the Email legit. Can you send/receive anything here private?(still new here)

Corinne

Thanks for stopping by. If you want to send confidential info, send it to me at JFrye2@Bcps.org. Independent of Townhall, a few of us have established a Yahoo Group as well as a private chat room. I've been looking for your column, but I couldn't remember what State, I had wiped out all the blogs on my blogroll. I remembered the name of your blog and I'd been through the states I thought you were in, now I can add you back on, if that's okay.

Str8_Talk

Feel Free to do so Kimberly!

Georgetwin

You're now back on, hopefully I'll find others as I see them posting. I just happened to see your name @ Brian's. Come on over and see my recent blogs, I've been busy writing this week.

I had to have an epidural on my neck again, so I can sit here and if it doesn't require much thinking, I can write and answer. HaHa! Beware the one on Abortion, it contains one very graphic picture and one on the link. The favorite seems to be the one I wrote on Colin Powell, then the one on Soros.

If you need some comic relief, then check out the latest Scary Politicians. Glad to finally find you!

Hey, GT

I saw your comment over at Gunny's place. It's good see you back!

Stop by my place sometime.

When 85% of Americans believe in God, how can Obama be ahead in the polls? New Post on my blog re: a famous black man NOT voting for Obama, but McCain.

Georgetwin

You're going to wish you stayed in hiding...Ha!Ha! I have another new post, it's an Obama blast, but it's true, so it cannot really be a blast then can it?
