The Libertarian Party Choices and Chances

This is simply outstanding coverage. You've done a great service here.

With their being represented already on the ballots of 48 states, and aiming for the remaining two (not "nine" as Obama-math would dictate), the LP is looking like an excellent place for conservatives to put their support in November.

I'd still like to hear from folks who support other parties, though. Let's hope they chime in.

I'm all but sold on Barr and the Libertarians, though.

Thanks again for your great work!

I'm usually just a reader and don't post comments, but I wanted to thank you for an outstanding article.

There is one error in that the 49 and 50 states for ballot access are OK and WV. The LP will be on the ballot in AL. I'm going to assume we'll be on the ballot in OK and WV too now that Barr/Root is the ticket. They are states with tough petitioning requirements, but it is worth the money and effort to give voters in all 50 states the real choice this election.

When polled about if the United States should have a third party, sixty-nine percent of them believe we should. This is the LP's strongest ticket ever and if it breaks down to a 35%-35%-25% race like it theoretically could then it will change politics in America for the good of all America.

Please forgive me for intruding on a comment thread probably intended for Countryman. He's doing great work.

I just wanted to say that I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis. This is the BEST year I have ever seen for a third-party. With Barr as the LP nominee, perhaps all the proverbial stars are properly aligned for the first time.

I have been saying for a while now that, while he's obviously an underdog, Barr has a credible shot to win the free four-year Air Force One rental. ;-)

If not this year, then 2012. I am feeling more optimistic about my country's politics than I have in years. Let's spread the good feeling and the good arguments in favor of supporting a third party in '08.

Thanks for your valuable comments and insights. I'm glad to know that you've been reading, and am grateful for your taking the time to share your thoughts.

Cheers!
