I didn't see much that was off message at the event I attended. I know that some didn't want a focus on Obama but he is the president and he is driving this bus.
Runaway government was the overarching theme covering borrowing, spending, and the inevitable taxing that must follow. The message that resonated most with me was when one of the speakers held up a copy of the constitution, federalist papers, anti-federalist papers and several other books and urged the audience to read and study these subjects and pass that education along.
We didn't get to this point overnight and everything could very well come apart before it can be fixed; if it can be fixed. I agree that this movement must be very careful not to be co-opted by either party or single issue group.
We must restore the constitution before anything else can be accomplished. It may fail but I can't bring myself to do nothing.
Judging by the reaction of the socialist elites it scared somebody.

Fun essay, Skep
I'll pick one nit with it. Bush's hair-on-fire about the "bailout" wasn't the first time he descended into liberal policies.

well put Skep41
Bush was a RINO and was A-okay with signing budgets the GOP congress handed him after they lost their identity. Even as bad as they were at spending, Obama and the dems came out saying "you republicans think you can outspend us? We're democrats! No one outspends us!" As I've put forth, Obama is intentionally wrecking the economy to make Americans become dependant on the government and actually want socialism. That's change alright. Hope? These Tea Parties are our last hope. Great blog. I wish I could have gone to one, but was there in spirit.

The Tea Parties were aimed at both...
...democrats and repub's. In my view. Certainly Bush 43 was a better manager and administrator than is Obama. But he and K. Rove did more to wreck the GOP and drive voters away. They are more to blame for Obama winning than is Obama! In their disgusting attempts to pander to certain groups, they ended up driving other groups away. And the groups they tried tp pander to have always hated the gop and conservatives. The voting blocks they drove away were the ones who put his butt in office both in 00 and 04. Not to mention the 02 mid terms. And he turned on them! No, I can't agree that Bush 43 and his bud's deserve much in the way of praise. DD

Efforts to combat ignorance
Skep: the MSM was willing to call them Tea Baggers and other fanatical names because they did not like the tenor of the protest. Protesters took out after big govt., statism, high taxes and spending, anti-military policies, and the fact that this Admin. is the worst pro-abortion group in our history. So the media called it a hodge podge of ideology with Fox, Limbaugh et al behind it. They missed the point . These people may have represented the frustrated who just do not want tyranny to overcome personal liberties on any level. The Stupid Party just has to connect with these old principles and put it into communication which will convince the ignorant and non-producers in our nation. It will be very hard. Education has brainwashed our kids and our parents are too easily swayed by American Idol wasting of time. But, Buckley , Reagan, even Goldwater started the education process. It can be done . The only question is , is it too late already. Drop by friend.

Great you were able to participate in a tea party, Skep! Since everyone who supports the parties is already labeled as an extremist, the movement can only continue to grow. Who doesn`t want to be an outcast? Some people in Habersham County, Georgia were prohibited to gather on "government property". A harbinger for the rest of the country when pbho finally becomes aware/informed about them?
We watched the coverage on Fox and the parties were peaceful and well attended. Not allowing politicians to speak was a master stroke. Really great signs, too! Saw one on a blog that said, "Don`t Tax Me, Bro!"

Skep you're right. We are living "Alice in Wonderland". Alice had an escape we don't have.
I don't know the speaker's name Sgt Relic was talking about but he maintained that at a local level we had a chance. We have to keep pressure on our local representatives and start looking actively for new candidates to fill their positions all across the country, and keep doing these tea parties every couple of months to show we as a people are committed to having these politicians thrown out of office next election. ...Our only chance is by remaining peaceful.(He worked for Homeland Security).

Good Job.
I am sick and tired of the "fake conservatives" saying they are ashamed of us TeaParty peeps. They're just gonna sit back and take it? Nope, not I. There is a post at my place if you are so inclined. I followed you home from the WaPo comments today!! Saw your nom de plume on that Dana what's his name's column. Nice beatdown! i don't really get his point, but I do get that the left are all a bunch of sore losers and now, sore winners. XOnservatives don't even come close to being bitter, nasty and vitriolic as he claimed.

Skep41, The Administration Was Scared...
and so was the Left, by the TEA Parties.
That, in and of itself, is a good enough reason to keep them going.
The MSM's lack of coverage placed every one of the TEA Parties into the "minds" of everyday Americans. This is good too.
Remember, the Boston Tea Party, in and of itself, did not start the Revolution. What it did was to place the "concept" of revolution into the minds of the colonists and the British Ruling class.
We need additional steps and "Parties" to lead down the road to the revolution of changing the country back to the Reagan years.

Great read, as usual. Your take on not letting the message get co-opted is key. I went to a tea party back in march, and have been checking the blogs here at TH and have seen so many great signs...but they are all over the map regarding issues. Saying you are anti-tax just isn't reasonable. Likewise with abortion, etc. But, they have attacked us on so many fronts, it is going to be difficult to come up with a coherent, singular message. Especially since they are painting the tea parties as a Republican phenomenon, negating our legitimacy since W opened the door so wide. Damm statists...

good post. Many at our tea party were the same, knowledgeable, from all political sides, and angry at our government. The signs though, were all over the place, but in the end we were calling for our democrats and republicans to speak, and they did not. So much for our elected leaders, huh?
