Pat Buchanan Becomes Putin's Lord Haw Haw?

Because of your post I went to Buchanan's article and was pretty much sickened. So Buchanan has become a propogandist, apologist for a man who came to power blowing up apartment buildings of his citizens and then blaming it on Chechan terrorists.

The bottom line is that the West under US leadership can inflict a lot of pain on Russia until the Russia sees the error of it's ways and backs out. If we don't we will pay a price in the future.

I really do think Putin is a danger, as he seems to have the ambition of restoring Russia's old borders, perhaps even restoring power over the Warsaw Pact nations. And I think were the US to interfere he would not hesitate to support anti-US terrorists or nations in order to distract us so his plans could proceed.

The sad thing is I have seen a number of conservatives, and not just Buchanan supporters, who think I am worrying about nothing, who think Russia is just "saber rattling to save face".

Fortunately, I think recent events have dispelled this belief among the more reasonable conservatives. They now see that Putin does have imperial ambitions.

I am not sure precisely what form our response should take, but we should make it absolutely clear we will not allow him to continue trying to dismember Georgia, control elections in the Ukraine, and so on.

I've never understood why anyone listens to Buchanan. We should call him Lord HeHaw.He's a broke clock , right twice a day by accident. He's nuts.

Buchanan worries me because he gives credence to that old lie that Nazis/fascists were "conservative". if we call Buchanan a "conservative" we seem to support that stupid idea.

Of course, how the "National SOCIALIST Party" could be right wing is beyond me. But if we refuse to limit the term conservative to those for free trade and limited government, and allow in protectionist semi-Nazis like Buchanan, I suppose we help support that strange belief.
