Colorado's Amendment 43, And The Clueless Media

Dan Haley, the Denver Post & Politics

Why is it that to be conservative and thinking in America today we have to also be so serious? This ad is truly funny and is a great release from the awful ads running on most of the networks in Colorado right now. I personally would love to see President Bush pay attention to his own citizens and take care of the things that are right here at home and at hand. The Republican base needs to start getting back to the basics. It's pretty clear that this Amendment 43 isn't necessary at all.

A Response From The Pundits

If I may be so bold, in place of the kids, as this is my post,

To think that the marriage amendments aren't necessary, I cite the Massachusetts Supreme Court case where they misinterpreted their own laws in finding that gay marriage is a "right" in Massachusetts, and gays can't be discriminated against. On the contrary, and as I pointed out in the post above, marriage isn't a right. It's not even close to being determined one, despite what many enthusiasts of the 9th Amendment may crow about. The so-called "right" to marry has not been challenged up the judicial ladder.

As long as radical thinking people continue to push this issue, states feel obligated to spell things out for those people. And I would also like to remind everyone that the amendments passed by states during the 2004 election, as ballot initiatives approving amending the respective state constitutions, have also been challenged as "unconstitutional." If this is what it takes to protect the institution of marriage, then so be it.

As for the GOP getting back to basics, they already are. And should this election go their way, instead of the Democrats, they may have what it takes to ensure some things do get changed. ANWR was killed in this past session, again, yet we keep hearing both sides shout about the need to end dependence on foreign oil. ANWR, in a matter of a few years, can do just that for the nation.

The other side is doing everything it can to second guess the administration regarding the war. Nancy Pelosi infamously remarked in her 60 Minutes interview that the "war on terror" was in "Afghanistan." With intelligence like this, it is a wonder how they manage to keep holding onto the seats they have. The War on Terror is global, and has the US in every major country around the globe hunting our enemies down, and running them to ground. It's not just the military on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's CIA, NSA, and other intelligence agencies coordinating their efforts.

The GOP is on task., In my opinion, the ad was done in poor taste. But poor taste seems to be the forte of the liberals this time around. Ask Claire McCaskill. Ask the DCCC in Arizona slamming JD Hayworth. Ask Ben Cardin, who is utilizing the new Michael J. Fox ad against Michael Steele. Disingenuous is an understatement for their side in this election, and it shows their desperation.
