If you look carefully, the Democrats performed below average in the number of seats taken for an "off year" election. Also, many of the seats they won were taken by a single percentage point or less. There was no landslide victory.

The point is, despite the horrible press, the Democrats managed to do "okay" for an off year but it was not a spectacular victory by any means.

President Bush still holds higher approval ratings than Congress, the last time I looked and according to Rasmussen, Bush's support is holding steady at 38-40 percent.

The important thing to note is that as the media is caught in more fabrications, their effectiveness in influencing people is going to wane. So while they may have helped the Democrats in the 2006 elections, I suspect that influence is going to be somewhat less in 2008.
