McCain's Five Best VP picks

McCain's best VP pick

Mike Huckabee, hands down the best choice. Great orator, quick on his feet, calm, ability to balance a budget, would win any debate, especially if it's one on one. Everybody likes him, except the uninformed that believe all of his supporters are evangelicals (wrong!) and that Huckabee would make America a theocracy (wrong!) There are other minorities in this country besides Hispanics and African Americans. What about the Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs that immigrated from places like India and Pakistan, etc, and became US citizens? The ones I know personally have true conservative social and fiscal values and they want Huckabee.

I want Huck for VP

I confess I was trying to be broadminded when I made my list but I agree with you. I think the strongest case can be made for Huckabee. Daniels is not an evangelical. Pawlenty is evangelical but is "Minnesota Nice" which means he's basically a quiet, modest, keep to himself guy who happens to be an amusing fellow once you meet him. Huckabee would be his superior in any debate due to his stage presence and experience in public speaking. Don't underestimate a preacher or a teacher when it comes to sounding good on your feet. They've had years of experience in public speaking and it will work to their advantage. Another argument for Huckabee is that Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is a virtual shoo-in as the Democratic nominee's running mate no matter who the Democrats choose. He's a retired Methodist minister who is going to know how to talk to religious people. Can you visualize the debate if McCain picks a moderate to liberal running mate? Strickland will sound more conservative than the GOP sidekick. I like Huckabee and think he deserves the nod. He's got what it takes to stand down Strickland. Plus the media loves him. He's witty and warm. I hope he picks Huckabee.

Add Portman as a possibility for VP

The only person I overlooked in my discussion of the McCain VP pick was Rob Portman. He's an appealing candidate but I'm not sure he helps that much if Strickland gets the Democratic nod for VP. At best, it trumps Strickland and makes Ohio a draw for both candidates. I still lean towards Huckabee.
