Post Prop-8 Protests Potentially Polarizing People

State Licenses Are Not Rights

Thanks for your thoughts.

A basic argument I have for Prop 8 is that there is no right to a state-issued license, and the the court erred. The voters were reasserting their rights.

Selective Observation

"Since there’s no hard evidence declaring all cases of homosexuality ingrained genetically"

That's entirely false. Science makes no claims that sexual orientation is genetic. However, the published and peer reviewed research provides "hard evidence" that sexual orientation is a) involuntary and; b) that it is formed before we learn to walk.

By the way, there is no hard evidence that all blue eyes are genetic in origin. Einstein said "No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong."

The "genetics" argument is one that is proffered by theological "scientists." The usual construct is that the science in inconclusive because of the failure to identify the so-called "gay gene." That is flawed because absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Moreover, a gene is not a requirement of the proof.

With respect to education, you seem to omit the facts that the curriculum is subject to local school boards AND that parents can choose not to have their kids receive health or sex education that conflicts with their religious beliefs.

Beyond that, where does it end? What about the science teacher who explains the scientific evidence that the earth is 4.5 billion years old? Notwithstanding a parent's opt-out privilege, I fail to understand exactly what harm can occur from students learning that there are gay people and that some gay people have committed, monogamous relationships - often for decades.

If you are worried about children, how about the gay kids who must now feel that they are second class citizens?
