California in the early 1990's, I can affirm that yes they do exist.

They are so far from reality that I actually pity them. In the event of a natural disaster, they will be the first ones to get hurt (i.e., in an ice storm they would be running around trying to protect trees from losing limbs due to ice build-up and a limb will fall on them).

End result was massive deforestation by runaway forest fires.
