Strangest of the strange

For a very brief time I roomed with Mario Savio, the leader of the original "Free Speech Movement" at Berkeley. Needless to say we didn't agree on much. As I think back on it from this distance, I can't help but think how far we haven't come. We still need a rule that, before you exercise your free speech, you ought to have something decently intelligent to say. And the converse, the sin of too many universities, is that they insist on exactly the opposite. If you have something intelligent to say, you can't.
