Little do you readers know, Steve HAS a blog at www.digitalbrownpajamas.com that he is two, no three, no FOUR timing on. Why won't he post on his poor suffering blog?

Great post exposing Barack Obama.
Obama may attend church, but like Gore & Kerry (and countless others on the left) he lacks the fundamental understanding of faith and its influence on our nation's institutions.
And like most lefties, Obama's lack of understanding suggests he ultimately believes faith and reason are EXCLUSIVE of one another, rather than complimentary to one another.
By the way, nice job of addressing commenter "JohnCar"'s silly remarks regarding Hugh criticizing the AP reporter's irresponsible article, earlier in the day.
You were absolutely correct, "JohnCar" was basically comparing apples to oranges when he said that Hugh had no right to criticize Kevin Roderick of LAObserved.com for refusing to appear on Hugh's radio program today.
I've figured out that "JohnCar" also sometimes posts using the name "JohnDoe."
He's a lefty, and he apparently just comes to Townhall to be a nuisance.

'vs. slavery based on bible...'
I disagree with this assertion: "This cannot coexist with the earlier paragraph... Lincoln made explicit arguments against slavery based almost exclusively on biblical bases."
Lincoln should not have relied so on religion, perhaps might have had better results.
I can make the argument vs abortion (see Nat Hentoff, et al) and slavery. I may be guided more directly and quickly by religion or philosophy, but I'd be silly to expect that.

Well said and argued. It seems to me that there is a mentality in the Democratic party that one must be a certain type of believer to be legitimate. You see this on the right as well to be perfectly fair. I have a lot of respect for Campolo based on things he has said and done as a Christian leader, though I disagree on many of the stands he has taken recently. I certainly recognize him as a powerful voice in the Political arena, and a committed Christian, and do not (as some on this site have stated) believe that Liberals cannot have faith. I personally cannot see how to reconcile my faith with Democratic platform planks that reduce the American prominence of the family unit, and so I am less likely to vote Democratic. But I still accept and respect the opinions of Mr. Campolo. It does not delegitimize his faith that he is liberal, just as it does not delegitimize mine that I am conservative. As for Mr Obama, I dissected his foreign policy speech on my blog, he seems to contradict himself and talk in generalities a lot.

Right on, Wil
You really hit the nail on the head, Wil. I also appreciated Tony Campolo's ministry years ago. I think his emphasis on putting "feet" to your theological talk by service to your community is a good one, but I also feel that lately he's gone off the rails somewhat.
And, like you, I just don't get how a Christian can give full-throated support to a party that, on a near daily basis, tries to oppose or excise another one of the 10 commandments (along with trying to expunge mentioning the decalogue itself!).
My mother, a lifelong Democrat, said recently that as a faithful Catholic, she just can't vote for a party that advocates things like Partial Birth Abortion, Gay marriage, running down the Boy Scouts, and seems somewhat hostile to people of faith. Not that the GOP is blameless, but at this point in time, they align more closely with the values I have.
My main bone of contention here, is the new religious test that has been imposed by the Left (and so, by many Democrats and not a few Repubs). They basically arranged it to where any serious person of faith, who lets that faith inform his decisions in the political realm, is suspect or even "evil."
I'm no historian, but I think that's a novel concept in American thinking that has only recently become the consensus.
