Okay, I'll bite. You're a compassionate person, I think that's admirable. I would feel sorry for someone down on his luck. But your rationale is in MHO misguided. People create their reality in this life. The bad choices they make are not from illness, but from weakness. Why? Because it's easier to choose the bad decision. Examples: Feel good today is easier than feel bad today and have happy future. Living in the flesh is easier than living in the spirit. Receiving a check in the mail is easier than putting yourself through school. Having a drink is easier than facing emotional pain honestly. Nobody ever told you this life was going to be easy. Nobody ever guaranteed success and a happy ending. It's up to you, and no one else. All you have is the right to be free to make decisions that could create a happy life. It is brutal out there, and all we can do is protect each other's freedom to succeed or fail. Now, charity, which is what the point of your post is about, is something generated out of love. And I believe in love. And I believe more people in our society should embrace love of others to help each other more. But in what form? I say the best is to teach them how to fish, not give them fish. But ultimately, they've got to go out with the rod and reel and catch their dinner if they want to eat. It's up to each of us, and no one else.

Good Words
That was great too read; when you look at reality honestly, doing right or not doing wrong can get complicated!
Your reply reveals some hard truths you believe in; it also reveals you've thought about those truths, and why?
I'd say because you care about doing the right thing; as no humans could be perfect and we can only try to get it right best we can, your answer might sound full of harsh realities, and it is, but ones brought up in an attempt to do the right thing.
I'm no bleeding deacon, so excuse me if I sound like one. What you feel might be right, and i'm always certain only that I could easily be wrong,
but you strike me as a true conservative, and a good man. That's one of the more thought out responses i've gotten to my idea about free will;
i'm gonna reread this again.
Hey- what do you make of the upcoming election and candidates? I believe our nation faces its biggest threat since Sputnik One was launched, and only Obama has addressed it, in a well enough way, but well enough don't cut it when its the biggest threat since sputnik one.
More later, thanks for the reply-

Election
B, fiscal conservatism, strong against crime, and strong on national defense. A willingness to fight when challenged, not afraid when the consequences are survival, and a track record of doing just that. How many candidates fit this bill for you? I'd compromise most other social conservative issues to elect someone who'd actually fight enemies, foreign and domestic for us.

Election
And here is why this election, and my feelings about American society overall lately, are confused.
I agree with you ( except on crime; i'm for being SUPER Tough on crimes targeting victims. Victimless crime, and many non violent offenses, I think we're too tough on now ).
Look, i'm no conspiracy whacko, but something is wrong about 9 / 11. BEFORE you laugh me off, i'm accusing no one, or the govt., or saying there aren't Islamic lunatics who want me dead.
My best friend was in the Khobar Tower Bombings in 1996, and he's in the fight again now. I don't care if my momma did 9 / 11; I want him to win the fight and live because what too many people forget or never knew is that when bullets fly and its going down...emotion takes over and logic is a hinderance.
I think we picked fights we had no right to pick; but they're picked!!! Americans are so spoiled they don't realize people died to get us this much in 'unjust' wars. You ask questions later; win the fight now.
That said...China has revolutionized the global economy and its an instant manuacturing supply chain dependant on technology we gave em they used better. They are the #1 nation of the world now ( Which could and should be rectifyed in one month ); we face a huge threat nationally being unacknowledged.
T Friedman's book on it was great: The world has been flattened through technology, and now the nations of the world are running a race.
Except for us: Americans are so behind in the world changes ( 43rd in cell phone ownership, one of the worst internet systems out of all developed nations ) we think the game is still King of the Global Hill and we won forever.
The world is flat and the game's a race, and we're the only nation not racing. China grauates 350,000 engineers a month. Us?
We have the best infrastructure and most colleges out of any nation; we need to have free educ.for all, and health care, and if all those kids selling crack because college was never a real option were able to go to school....
even 1 out of every 20 who graduated ups America's chances of getting in the race. EVERY OTHER developed nation is getting education in gear; we need to get in the game.
If you haven't read it' T Friedman's "The World is Flat" is a MUST READ, like him or not.
I think 9 / 11 has been scientifically proven to be...funky...and know what? I don't care. We're in the fight. WIN IT. Then...we need new leaders.
I don't trust these neo cons ( Straussians , I mean ) and I think they manipulated Bush, who I believe has been a bad pRES only because of the neo cons, who manipulated him because Bush is a stand up guy.
Strong on national defense? Heck yeah; didn't Russia just basically threaten us?
See ya- Brian
(Obama, so far for me)
