A Message From Some Nutty Soldier

I'm glad you created your own blog, but this particular essay touched me very much.

I also enlisted, as a much younger man than you, but for a lot of the same reasons, when the country was going through another period of angst similar to now, in 1969, and went to the RVN.

What you wrote stirred memories in me of those times, and the emotions that motivated me and others like me.

Thank you very much.

LD

I am a big fan of yours, and I have always enjoyed reading your posts.

My heartfelt thanks to you and your family for the sacrifices you have made for our country.

A special thanks to you and our Troops who protect our freedom. Because freedom is not free, you pay that price for us each and every day. You are America's TRUE HEROES.

May you all return to the arms of your loved ones real soon!

Awesome

LD,
I have checked everyday since I saw that you had a blog...waiting anxiously for your thoughts!! I am not disappointed!

You have described everything I have felt about this war and I am one who would do the same thing as you have done. I cannot seem to get a recruiter to pay serious attention to me. oth my brother and I have said that the younger soldiers would benenfit from our experiences, maturity, etc. Great Job. And as always, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank You LD!

Every day that I am free to think and make decisions for myself I know that I owe it to brave Americans such as yourself.
Having been a military spouse for the first 10 years of my adult life I can appreciate the sacrifice both you and your family are making.
May God Bless You...and I Thank You!

Thank you!

LD - I have watched for your posts from the first time I read your writings, and forward them on to friends and relatives as great examples of what we coudl expect if the left gets their way - always pointing uot that you have your tongue firmly planted in your cheek!

I have felt the same as you express in this post - but must stand on the sidelines as they won't take this old body in service. I will continue my target practice with my FNH 5.7 in case they ever change their minds ;)

Also - my nickname/initials before I was married was "LD" - so I harbored a fondness for you from the start. Be safe, our friend, and blessed.

Excellent post.

Thank you for your service to this country and to the other men who serve it. And thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Keep 'em coming.

I'm in awe ..

.. of guys like LD.

LD and other men and women who take up the Call to Duty, do so with full awareness of what they are risking, but also knowing that without their efforts, the world would be a dark and dismal place.

Reading LD's words re-kindled my anger at the people (e.g. Michael Moore, John 'Cary' and others) who disparage our soldiers as the lower tier of society, uneducated, and shanghaied into the military as their only employment opportunity.

LD's satire is always awesome but this post has a special meaning for his regular readers.

LD (and his brothers and sisters in arms) are heroes - they DO, while others (like me) can merely write and talk. Theirs is a courage that isn't merely physical, but intellectual as well.

Paraphrasing the words from "Saving Private Ryan", the rest of us had better "find a cure for cancer, or invent a longer lasting light bulb, or something" to DESERVE THIS from our soldiers.

Thank you, LD, for your service - and for letting us laugh (and sometimes cringe) at your satire.

Thank you LD

For your service, your ascerbic wit, and your selfless contribution in the furtherance of the values of this great nation of ours. May we all be worthy of your gallant and necessary sacrifices and forever grateful for men of honor such as yourself. I salute you, sir.
