R.I.P. GOP

RIP

Let us have a 21 gun salute and playing of Taps. Goodbye GOP, we'll miss you!

Cajun

Great idea. I need something other than prayer right now to console me.

Right now I'm hoping more people feel the way that we do. With enough of us, anything is possible!

Keep us posted

I'm hoping with you that there are enough of us willing to work together. Maybe in our straw poll in Colorado on Feb 5, I'll go ahead and write Fred Thompson's name in as you've suggested. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else does.

A Moment of Silence

I agree with you, to an extent. It's been a good run. I never did understand the lack of support.

I've referenced this post on my blog, by the way. Stop on by.

R.I.P. Conservatism

Redhead

I totally understand the lack of support. It's called a hatchet job by the liberal MSM. They made sure that Fred looked unappealing to people in a way that worked. They had nothing else so the lazy card played well for them. Remember, the rest of the country may not be as informed as you and I are.

Phoenix Lady

There seems to be a lot of people willing to write him in. I'm trying to facilitate an online meeting place so others like us can plan.

I'm not sure what will come out of it, but I know for sure that nothing will happen if we do nothing.

Con4fred

It's amazing how so many of us are arriving at the same conclusion from different directions. I bailed the GOP by re-registering after the 11/06 election. I also bailed on Fred last summer when I realized that he wasn't serious. I've been greatly disturbed the past few weeks by his willingness to run interference for his good friend McCain while doing a mediocre job campaigning for himself. If that proves out later, it is a good thing for conservatives that he dropped out now before we end up with Rudy or McCain. It just isn't a good year for the GOP and I agree with Tom Delay that there IS no GOP today. Luckily, conservatives are still robust on Congressional races, Dem and Rep so all is not lost. We will be back soon enough.

Pasedena Phil

I take exception to your inference that Fred did not campaign well. It's simply not true. You have fallen for the media talking points.

Con4fred

Saw your note to me on th main blog. What's up?

My .02

I went back and read your post. I find myself in very much the same place.

The GOP has left me. I guess I would have been what Medved refers to as a RINO. No problem, since the party left me, I no longer consider myself a Republican. I still believe in small gov't, sovereignty, rule of law, and national security.
Too bad the GOP doesn't.

Romney may have to be good enough this time around. We may only have this election to stop the illegal inundation. McCain, Clinton, or Obama will try again on amnesty. One more and we're done. 1 in 8 residents of the U.S. is foreign born. That is higher than ever. This is not like previous immigration when immigrants became Americans. 1 in 8 households speak Spanish. The birthrates of illegal aliens are astounding. We are running out of time to save our country.

Hi Con4Fred, nice to meet ya!

Don't share your gloomy view anymore. I am sunny side up and looking for my candidate for 2012. But we all just realized that the tent is indeed big, too big. Lately I lay awake thinking, "Are there really Republicans who want to change the Bureau of Tabacco and Firearms to the Bureau of Marijuana and Tasers?.

It's just a glitch and maybe we republicans could get really rascally and raise up DINOs for them to deal with in their national elections.

Hm. Serves 'em right I say.

Retreat to Canada?

Gee, I wish "somebody would form a party" for me.

But alas, there are only 2. But in Parliamentary systems everyone gets a party! Sounds like your kind of place.
Go to Europe. Others will do things for you there. There's bound to be a party small enough for you.
And your write in won't be a vote for the democrats! It will actually count!

I just don't think conservatives leaving your party will make it more conservative. GOP will live on of course, I guess as the Huckabee-Hagel coalition. Who will stop them? You'll be writing down wishes.

I just don't know what took you so long. 30 years?? Bush I and II were okay but not McCain? Weird.

But what do I know, I was never foolish enough to join the centrist republicans in the first place.

Our system is too moderate and narrow for true conservatives like you. But there are plenty of other countries.
Iraq even. You seem to have alot of confidence in Barack sorting things out there. Go, by all means.
Say hi to the kids you let down and tell them about your purity and commitments. They'll get it.

need to do both

You need a dual strategy to address the fix conservatives are in. First, you need to start a third party dedicated to fiscal conservatism. That will take time to develop at the grass roots level to challenge both parties in the House and Senate. Second, we need to hold our noses and vote McCain in the current election just like Reagan campaigned for Ford in 76. Because Clinton/Obama are Jimmy Carter reborn.

I concur

Let me know when the Conservative Party gets started up; I'm game!

What A Fiasco!

It started happening when we let Newt be ousted, his replacement Livingstone, a strong conservative, then was trashed by the libs into retirement and they scraped Dummy Hastert out the bottom of the barrel to be Speaker. Then we elected the 'Compassionate Conservative'as Prez and Bill 'flat tire' Frist became senate majority leader and proved unable to prevent the destructive antics of 'The Raging Maverick'. Which brings us to now. Will we reward the Raging Maverick for his perfidy and nihilism by giving him our unearned votes? Not me.
