To My Native Land: Sonnets from Self-Exile

A Delicious Irony of History

I wrote this sonnet in 1986 inspired by the presidential election results in the Philippines -- a chain of events which subsequently led to the "Peoples' Revolution" which sent Marcos to exile in Hawaii.

Never in my wildest dreams or nightmares did I imagine that the same sentiment would someday (circa now) could apply to the results of a US Presidential Elections.

The sweeping implementation of the Obama agenda is exactly the flourishing of a false vision for this nation. This is beyond scary. It's downright outrageous.

The Halcyon Days of Yore
Is now an appropriate moniker for the Carter Administration. This is Obama's first contribution to history, the much vaunted change and hope promished, ad nauseam, in the campaign. Let me explain:

The other day, I received a notice from my Credit Card provider that my charges rate has been changed to 29% apr. Before this the most I have paid for cc interest was 24% during the halcyon days of James Earl Carter.

Worse yet, the Obama agenda is attempting to transform this nation of doers and achievers into a nation of hopers.

Ben Franklin could be squirming in his grave.
