For Wil: Palin's Stand on Issues

Sanity, Wil, and Sarah

Wil is a serious commenter on serious issues. The issue he's raised is worthy of about 10,000 columns (at least). I supports Sarah in past, perhaps in large part, because of the "fresh eyes" phenomenon. Given her personality and history, she would conduct the WOT vigorously, with a commitment to winning it. What we absolutely do not want is a continuation of things as our "established leaders" have defined them. We can't fight a war on anything if half the country opposes the endeavor. In other words, we don't want the WOT over the next 8-9 years to go on as it has recently. That's not fair to anyone, especially the soldiers who receive mixed messages everyday from Washington. Wil and everyone else have to tackle this issue. "New" (and Sarah is new in spades) is not always better, but old -- things as they -- is totally unacceptable. It's all well and good for the Dems to say they "support our troops," but that's like saying you support Florida State while half-hoping (for political reasons) that the Univ. of FL wins. I'm not exactly saying the Dems are sleeping with the enemy, but in a practical sense they might as well be. Can V-P Sarah or Prez Sarah function effectively in that situation? Of course not, and no top leader could. I may embellish this as a column. What I'm having a hard time saying is that Sarah can bring a new perspective (precisely because she's not yet "implicated" in the war strategy) and find new, simpler ways to explain what's at stake. The "old guys" can't do that apprently, because if they could have, they would have.

On Dan Quayle

On Dan Quayle: He's one of the V-P candidates from the past (see my recent column) that I highlighted as someone who couldn't play the role adequately. He's a inarticulate man who comes across as naive. Sarah doesn't suffer from either of those limitations. Republicans have habitually nominated the wrong MAN for the V-P role. This time they have a chance to nominate the right WOMAN. In my column, I mentioned that Mrs. Quayle would have been a better choice. Quayle was a candidate twice and served four years as V-P. As far as I can determine, he left no footprints in the sands of time.
