Trepe:
I will begin my response to your post by saying that, in my view, the US Govt. could well provide goods and services to American citizens, IN ORDER TO HELP THEMSELVES, for HALF of what is spent now, and DO A MUCH BETTER QUALITY JOB in doing so.
It is curious that you did not mention the INSANE WASTE on defense spending..that could easily be cut in half without losing one iota of "security". But Boeing, Lockheed, et al, would lose out, and all those defense industry jobs would disappear. The Transnational Corporations that WRITE and LOBBY and RUN our government rule the roost. Eisenhower warned us, did he not? He was CORRECT.

Now....However, most libertarians that I have read have little or no sense of "THE COMMONS".
I direct you to AGRARIAN JUSTICE by Thomas Paine for a place to start. ALL wealth really begins with Nature, natural resources, land and labor. Yes?

My issue with libertarianism, is that it quickly degenerates, and gets twisted into an anarchical mode of thought, an " I ME MINE" mentality, and a complete lack of understanding of THE COMMONS.

As humans,we are in this life TOGETHER, connected intimately with the Earth and her Bounty. Indigenous cultures the world over understand this. Now.... the Grand Question is: How do we co-exist, live and carry on commerce together.
THERE HAS NEVER - EVER - BEEN a "FREE MARKET" in the history of humanity, ad there never will be.

* and there never will be.

Libertarians get so lost in WHAT'S THEIRS. And that is not to diminish property rights. I am speaking of their antipathy to most TAXES.

We have a COMMONS to pay for... fire depts., roads, police, local govts. , schools, the earth, water, air, etc. Some intelligent - INTELLIGENT -regulations are necessary.

I feel that the people should have the power, instead of the government. This changes the role of government, instead of eliminating the government. There is a need for a government that assists and aids equality and opportunity, instead of legislating and regulating it. I feel this is the way Libertarianism needs to move instead of anarchy. I also feel that having anarchist as a party's fringe element, is far better than having people who want a communist, or facist, regime.

I have learned a few things and I have a few more things to learn. One thin I live by is viewing things as I want them to happen instead of how I do not want them to happen. I choose to see things get better instead of focusing on what I think can never happen or what I do not want to happen.
