Republican Backstabbing And Political Suicide

It has been enlightening to see who your friends are. The GOP hierarchy and the Wall Street Journal/Chamber of Commerce wing of the party have exposed themselves and I hope the voters notice. This issue must be pushed to the fore in the '08 election. The next President must be someone who will secure the border and enforce the law. This one has shown he will not.
Ted Kennedy has created this mess with his overhaul of immigration in 1965. Before that we let in something like 250,000 a year, a survivable, assimmilatable, sane number. He said his 1965 law would not flood our cities with a million immigrants a year or change the demographic makeup of the country. Wrong on both counts and I believe it was intentional. As illegal immigration got out of hand, his one time only amnesty of 1986 has made the problem 10 times worse. We should not reform immigration laws until he is gone.

This is quite a late comment for this blog post, but I just saw it by accident. I'm glad I did.

I got on the "wrong" side of an opinion lately and was nearly driven into the ground by some people who not only criticized my opinion but my refusal to "back it up." I tried to explain to these creatures what an opinion was, even going to the trouble of giving a dictionary definition. Not even that was good enough.

If I'm not mistaken, even my writing capabilities (or lack thereof in their opinion) were attacked.

Usually I am on the "right" side of opinions here on TH. It's a comfortable place to be.

If I am not mistaken, Townhall asks, "Do you have an opinion?" Then the message goes on inviting opinions. I saw nothing regarding "backing up" or showing proof for reasons for opinions.

Just in my opinion, even those attacking me and my opinion were welcome to their own opinions. It never once would have occurred to me that they were wrong for expressing them or wrong for obviously believing them.

I am sorry you had to develop a "thick skin," and I'm sorry I may have to develop one as well.

By the way, I agree with your summation of our immigration problem. Lord help you if it's just an opinion.
