Comment on: Big Daddy's Place

Huxley's Vision

Re: Aldous Huxley

Hey Big Daddy! It's great to find a place where people can read your writing on a daily basis. Big Daddy is a great writer and it's about time he found a place to express his gifts.

Isn't it true that Aldous Huxley was actually a big time socialist? I know that George Orwell was a socialist that hated communism (but that's just plain funny). Anyway -- Good points in this article -- it is indeed a scary time and an exciting time to live.

Aldous Huxley

Huxley wasn't a socialist in the common (political) sense of the word, but his ideas and hopes for mankind had a decidely socialist bent to them. He believed in a "happy" society and believed it could be obtained through differing methods that changed as he matured. Prior to WWII it was based on a beneficient class system that he later came to dismiss as untenable depsite how kind the urges of that system were. He also explored the effect of hallucinogenic drugs and whether, if administered under proper supervision, they could usher in his utopian ideal. He later warned against drugs of that type despite the popular viewpoint that he advocated their use.
At any rate, he dreamt of a society that will exist one day, but not in the way he envisioned.
