Republican Leaders Must Resign

Maybe

I've been wondering for a while why it's so important to save the GOP. There isn't much left there for conservatives these days. Saving it for the sake of saving it doesn't make much sense to me. Me, I'm moving to Crawfish's party. I vote for the person, not the party.

Dump McCain

Can we save the GOP with McCain?

Hardly.

Let us have a revolt at the Convention and Dump McCain.

rycK

I think we need

REAL leadership, not jump on the 'what will make me popular bandwagon' list. The conservative politicians need to tell the media to mind their own business for a change.

The article I wrote "Conservates Step Forward" addresses this issue. Many politicians have lost the fortitude to stand up for what's "right!"

I Hope They Resign...

but I won't hold my breath.

If I were them, I would find an "Iraqi" vet (age 45 plus) who is retiring, possibly a decorated combat vet with the rank of Col. and/or above.

It would not matter if he had no political experience. That would be a plus in my book and most of the country's. They should make sure he is a strong conservative.

But again, don't hold your breath.

David Cameron

We have precisely the same problem occuring in the UK, with a TINO (Tory in Name only?) Conservative Leader.

I only came out as a conservative a few years ago, because the UK liberal zeitgeist had effectively neutered my true instincts.

In the UK, you really do need to "come out" as a conservative, because the Tory Party (i.e. Conservative Party) became a contaminated brand in the 1990s, after all the scandals.

We have to support and vote for real conservative candidates in an effort to get them elected.

As I have said before Bush 43 may be conservative but he never was a conservative.

McLiberal will be the candidate. If we could not get a more conservative candidate in the primaries what makes anyone think there would be a revolt and dump McCain at the convention?

To all

Thank you all for coming in and commenting. I was anxious to see what your reactions would be.
Gimp, I feel the same way about the Repub. but in reality there is no place to go. Libertarians can't make any progress. Crawfish needs a little more national exposure. :-) But I like his ideas as well as anyone's.

ryck , you are absolutely right...we can't save the GOP with McCain. We will nominate you to start the revolt and we will all follow.

str8t we do not have any REAL leadership at the minute and the media are going to keep putting down the GOP because they are so liberal.
You are making the right point... very few of our leaders are in it for the country, just for themselves.

Ghost. No don't hold your breath...they haven't finished feathering their own nests.
The only trouble I see with getting an "Iraqi" vet is the lack of public recognition. You know that "name" carries more weight than almost anything else.

Greg, With the far-left media in your country it must be as difficult as it is here to get the conservative ideas across.
We thought John Majors was very good and , at first, thought Tony Blair was doing a good job.
We used to watch Prime Ministers Questions and saw some of the workings. Since that is not on TV anymore we have lost touch with G.B. politics.
From what you say, it looks like the Tory Party went the way of the GOP.

Jev..Where do we find these "real" conservative candidates?? It seems like they run as "real" until they get into power. I had no idea how far from conservative Bush was. He has been such a disappointment. (Only better than Gore and Kerry is not much of a record!)
There will be no revolt in the convention unless rycK starts one! No one else will have the guts.

Again thank you all for coming and let's consider how we get by the next years deep in the minority with no one in Congress carrying our flag.

But who needs name recognition running against Obama? I would vote for my dog before I would vote for Obama. Plus, once the word got out that he was a combat vet with NO political experience, I think he would win in a landslide.

BTW, check out the British and their demand for their guns back (plus Al Qaeda updates). Stop by if you get a chance.

ghost

you and all the conservatives would vote for a dog instead of Obama, but all the blacks and all the liberals and all the young naifs will vote for him and think they are doing a favor to the country.
I will be delighted to vote for your candidate!

Good idea, but

It won't happen. We're in for another four years in the desert.

We need a leadership that will make it personal. Until people realize what a toll the liberals and their many laws take on their daily lives, we're lost.

By the way,

Part eight of the seven part series on Liberal Logic is up.

McCain isn't the problem

he is one symptom of a larger issue. They don't get it, they truly don't understand what Reagan stood for and why he energized people. It may be that they never will. If they don't resign, maybe its time to start a new party from the grassroots up.

red

I suspect it will be more than 4 years~! We will be lucky if we ever get out.
They won't even have brains enough to yell about what the Dems are doing ...they will just go along like sheep.

Wil

You are right...they don't get the point. They never guessed why they lost the majority. All they know is what they can get out of it.
I don't think another party would have the power to get elected. The two parties are too embedded in our society, there is too much diversity in the population, and the trend toward liberalism has increased.
Thanks for stopping by!

Heresy, I love it....

I got bounced off of GOPUSA for suggesting that conservatives needed to talk less about disliking McGore and more about who we're going to vote for in November. McCain/Feingold is in operation over there and third party discussions are relegated to the
"fantasy" section. I decided to opt out since I am not fond of controlled political speech.

I can't think of one GOP leader that I am willing to follow at this point. Perhaps Flake or Pence should they decide to become real mavericks but the current GOP is dead to me.

Boehner is somewhat conservative

or at least talks the talk, but he's not a charismatic LEADER. We've got a choice this fall between a moderate Dim-ocrat and a full-blown socialist.

American Tradition Party in 2012!!!!

sgt

You got bounced??? What happened to free speech?
We are still steaming about Geo. Allen getting the axe because of "macaca" We thought he would be a good nominee.
Otherwise you are sooooooo right.

emjayne

Right it might be much longer than four years unless the party gets its act together.

jev

I am very afraid you are right. Until we get rid of all those pigs in Congress there is no hope. And with their life expectancy it could be a long time.
It's going to be painful.

A Call to Arms

Norman, a frequent poster in TH has invited all to participate in a grassroots effort to come up with an alternative to McCain:

My TH blog, The Blogatorium, has a new mission: To serve as a forum for disenchanted conservatives who cannot in good conscience support John McCain, and want to use their vote wisely and effectively in November.

This endeavor is predicated on the following assumptions:

1. That the GOP has abandoned conservatism, and that conservatives are consequently under no moral, ethical, or other obligation to support the so-called "lesser of two evils."

2. That no true conservative would willingly and enthusiastically support John McCain.

3. That the basic tenets of conservatism are accurately reflected in the "three-legs" model (social, fiscal, and national security), and that a true conservative will embrace all three.

4. That conservatives may, however, differ on the application of each "leg," particularly with respect to questions of faith, and should respect each others' right to do so.

5. That with unprecedented turmoil in both major parties, there has never been a better time to galvanize and mobilize conservative support for a viable, third-party candidate.

6. That compromise is often necessary in politics, but that there comes a time when compromise becomes counterproductive and even suicidal.

7. That the GOP, in making an abusive and manipulative “case” for John McCain, is asking conservatives to put party over principle and to help the GOP destroy the conservative movement.

8. That, in consequence of the aforementioned, a forum should exist wherein conservatives may discuss, debate, and compare the various third-party candidates.

9. That conservatives should, as much as possible, throw their support to ONE third-party candidate, en masse, in order to facilitate a strong showing in November, and future election victories.
