In order to win the republican vote one needs the vast majority of the base. For the very reasons you have listed is why he will not be nominated.

He might get that far but he'll never make president. As one political strategist put it after a 'few years of McCain youll be screaming to have Bush back in office'.

He's far worse off as a President than Bush and he comes off as cocky, arrogant and a know it all. No more jocks for president for sure. Most of all he's lied about issues that he denied taking part in.
