mining bill

Steele:
Wow!!With all on his plate I'm very surprised Democrat Brent Yonts even had time to resuscitate his mining bill, the one he declared dead a short time ago. After all he has been busy lately. His son, Harrison Yonts was convicted in Feb. of 2007 of "wanton murder, tampering with physical evidence, driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident". This conviction stems from his arrest in Nov. of 2005 in the hit and run death of 62 yr old Nadia Shaheen in Murray, Kentucky. Apparently Harrison Yonts, then 20 years old, a student at Murray State University, attended a frat party, got behind the wheel drunk, then struck Ms. Shaheen with his car as she was walking home from her job at the same university. He left the scene of the accident without rendering assistance and without calling the police. He got himself in further trouble trying to remove the evidence from his car. He now faces a prison sentence of 20 years. Of course Daddy won't take this laying down. My sources in Greenville tell me he's already working with Harrison's lawyers on the appeal. In addition, the family of the late Ms. Shaheen is filing a wrongful death civil suit against Yonts. Since his son's sentencing is in April, this mining bill ends up being good for the miners and a great diversion for Yonts.
Don't get me wrong. I believe in safety in the mines. My neighbor across the holler works in the mines as do a few of the men in my church. Yet, my problem is that whenever a Democrat sponsors any kind of safety legislation, I have to ask two questions: 1). What are they trying to hide? and 2). how much extra is this going to cost the consumers, the little people in their utility bills?

Keepin the faith with you bro.....
