This presidential race is a lose-lose proposition.

The Republican party is going to have to be totally rebuilt after the current pack of prize fools is repudiated at the ballot box.

Someone will have to be around to pick up the pieces.

You are right. The current state of the Republican party is poor. The rebuilding will only start when Republicans start electing Republicans committed to conservative principles. After all, the Democrats will always beat Republicans who act like Democrats.
