Comment on: Gray Ghost Country

Why I Fight

Gray

A-Freaking-men!!!
It's why *I* fight, too!! For him, for mine, for theirs.
If we don't, how can we look in the mirror?

Glad he's doing better.

Nee

You are correct. I wish to be able to look at myself while shaving and occassionally wink.

Thanks for stopping by.

with you

Brother!!what kind of future willhe have if we do not stand?? My Dad was a Distroyer sailor in ww2 and my nephew just got back from Iraq(thank God he is home 2 stay!)

Ghost

This is a fight we all must be fully engaged, Those who are literally bankrupting our country do not give a damn about the future. All they care about is what they can get now and to hell with the American people. I just became a great uncle...again! I am WITH you my fellow VET!!

GGhost

How many generations of Ghosts does this make now?

New Post at my place!

Congrats on #4.

I'm so glad he's doing better and wish him and all your family Godspeed as he grows and progresses. He's lucky to have you as his Grandpa.

Snow Knight

Thanks. (My father was a pilot flying P-40's in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy during WW2, 3 victories.)

I was a short-timer in the USAF; I have two nephews who have 4 tours in Iraq between them (US Army), and I have another nephew who just finished pilot training at Pensacola.

And you are correct, my new grandson will not have much of a future if we don't stand up now.

Watch Dog

Thanks for stopping by.

Congrats on being a great uncle (again). I have two great nephews. As Mrs. Gray Ghost said (speaking of me), it's good you are "great" at something.

Vets are going to have to lead the way in this fight as they understand (better than most) what is at stake.

Georgetwin

This makes six generations of "Ghosts", starting with the first "Gray" Ghost.

I'll be by shortly.

Bobbie

I appreciate your kind words. I love all 4 of these "rugrats". I wish my father had lived to see them. My mother loves them, but has trouble keeping the names stright. But she is 85 and has a good excuse. She has more than 4 to keep up with.

A most excellent reason

To continue the fight. And besides, those of what are now the elder generations, were quitters and whiners like so many I see today. (outside the Military)
And congratulations on being featured on the Front Page dudemeister.

Snow Knight: Gotta watch those Tin Can Tars, they are a sneaky lot.

Gar: Thanks for the Congrats

I didn't even know I was on the "featured" list.

Although, I really should contact TH (Chris Regal). They have me listed as growing up from the "150's to 1960's". Either I am as old as dirt or I had an extremely long childhood.

And don't poke too much fun at Snow Knight. After I read "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors", I gained a renewed respect for this group of squidies.

Grey Ghost

What happened this past monday was a travisty!!Snowe's vote spoke volumes and now is the time-more than ever that those who love our country-and our childerns future-must take off the gloves.( also My Dad was a sailor on a troop transport in WW2)

Congrats, Gray Ghost, on your 4th!

We're tied. My daughters (one 40, the other 37) will have a tougher time raising their young'ns than I had. My son (25) will face a shrinking economy in a much-weaker nation. Each of my grandchildren, when they reach adulthood, will be well beyond $1 million in debt, thanks to their government and to a plethora of gimmes who vote for a living rather than work for one.

It is our generation --yours and mine -- which will be the first in American history to leave its next generation worse off rather than better. Our grandkids had BETTER be fighters.

A Very Good Reason!

What a beautiful child, Gray Ghost! Congratulations to you and your family! What is the little guy`s name? He sure is cute and will grow into that nose! All the best, once again, to you and yours.

I remember

God bless you for reminding us all of those films. I saw them as a kid . Then as the War ended, when TV came to Phila. in '45, we had a small 10 inch. set. Soon came Richard Rogers' great music for Victory at Sea. If you have never seen that series, do so. You will swell with pride. Drop by anytime.

Congrats Ghost!

I agree, altough he's been through a lot, his eyes show im as very alert, and ready to take on the world.

Although my "reasons" are a couple years older, I'm fighting for them just as hard as you are for your reasons. :o)

All our kids and grandkids ask is Their chance to make a difference, the leftists in charge want to take away all those chances and replce them with "security".

Not if I can help it.

As Thomas Paine wrote.
"If there be trouble, let it be in my time, so my children may know peace."

Keep fighting the good fight my friend, it may not look like it right now, but we are Winning.

First they ignored us,
then they mocked us,
then they attacked us,
then we Won.

Mahatma Ghandi

I recognize that nose

I have that same nose. In my family, they call it "the mark of the beast". No generation seems to escape it. Congrats also on being featured blogger. I was one a while back and I thought it was a pretty cool honor, but that doesn't come anywhere near a new generation coming down the line.

Ghost, SK, Gar, & FinalRac

I have the "Why We Fight" series on DVD. I have the "Victory At Sea" on VHS, and want the theme song for the ringtone of my next cell phone when I get back to Texas this spring. "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" is one of the best single-battle books I've ever read.

Congrats on the new Ghost. May he grow up happy, healthy, and prosperous in what will once again be the greatest nation on earth.

Wait a minute!

Gray Ghost...Ghost Who Walks...do you have some kind of secret identity going here?!?

http://www.seattlepi.com/fun/phantom.asp

Oh, and...

...CONGRATULATIONS to all from The Interface!

Congratulations!

Gray Ghost, these little ones put it all in perspective, don't they. I've got 2 grandsons, myself, and I cannot tell you how worried I am about their future in an Obamamerika.

My last blog on Sept. 11 was 9/11 - We MUST Fight On. Of course I was talking about the Islamofascist threat. The thing is now, if we don't defeat the Socialists and Communists HERE, we may not be able to fight the Islamos.

Actually GG

Re: Tin Can Tars. I have met the enemy and it is me.
USS Hamner DD718 '68-'71 Old, leaky, roughkeeled, brain pounder in rough seas and still, all in all, a fair amount of fun. Now resting with Davy Jones

Congrats!

Good job, Gray. Keep 'em Coming, and keep 'em Right!

Patriot 76

I expect that the gloves went off about a month after O'Vomit was "sworn" into office. (Troop transport. What theater of operations?)

Thanks for stopping by.

drpete

"It is our generation --yours and mine -- which will be the first in American history to leave its next generation worse off rather than better."

You are entirely correct. This is one reason we must fight. And this will not be easy. But it must be done.

dawndawn

I don't normally put any of my families names out in the open. However, Mrs. Gray Ghost and I call him "Tris".

Thanks for stopping by.

Finalrac

I have the "Victory at Sea" series on DVD. You are correct about the music.

Thanks for stopping by.

Jackpine

Thanks, he is a "fighter".

And those of us who are older are going to have to "Draw the Line in the Sand" at what our present administration is doing. Not for us, but for future generations.

Jesse

You are correct about grandchildren being an "honor" and a responsibility at the same time.

As for the "nose", the men in my family have been "blessed" with it for five generations.

Crawfish, Thanks for the Congrats

I like the idea of the ring tone! The musical themes from "Victory at Sea" are impressive.

May I also suggest two books to read if you haven't already?

1. Thirty Seconds over Tokyo (This book has special meaning to me. My mother dated Ted Lawson's copilot. And my father has "one" carrier takeoff in a P40.)

2. A Devil of a Whipping, The Battle of Cowpens (My great-great-great-great grandfather fought in this battle.)

Interface

It is more like the "Lone Ranger" (although I like the Phantom)!

I just wish my local newspaper would get "The Phantom" back in the comic strips it prints.

Bob's Nephew

Just know (concerning the Socialists/Communists here in the US and the the Radical Islamics throughout the world) that history will remember who are enemies were.

And you are correct about grandchildren putting it all in perspective.

Gar

Were you on board when the USS Hamner rescued a naval aviator in Haiphong harbor in North Vietnam? I believe that this occurred during your tour of duty on her.

Redhead

Thanks, and thanks for stopping by.

Ghost

Congratulations!

From the look on his face he has obviously heard about our maximum leader. The nose is not so bad. We suffer a similar affliction in our family and it is the primary reason I never refer to the One as Dumbo. LOL!

I too remember that film series and the excellent Victory at Sea shows. I was also fascinated by the Industry on Parade series and still watch "How's it Made" and some of the other cable shows like it.

I fight for the same reasons you do, but I swear these political battles are frustrating, it was much easier when I could just shoot my enemies.

Sarge

"I fight for the same reasons you do, but I swear these political battles are frustrating, it was much easier when I could just shoot my enemies."

That time might be coming again, unfortunately. I pray that it doesn't; but I fear that unless the 2010 midterm elections remove Liberals from the control of at least one chamber of the US Congress it might have to begin.

BTW, the pictures do not do justice to his eyes. They were bright and looking around, like he was studing the situation. Tired? Yes. But he was still in there fighting.

Ghost

Excellet! Great pics, and congratulations to you and your family.

Okay... you've motivated me. I have to get some up of my granddaughter.

BrianR

Please do get some pictures up of your granddaughter!

As grandfathers, the one thing we can brag about (without any one thinking the worst of us) are our grandchildren.

Yeah man

There's just nothing like them grand-babies.

Okay, so he has a fairly large

..probiscus..

But girls realize early on the laws of proportion.
Lot earlier than most boys....

Okay, Gray

Done.

BTW, Buck... I always thought that had to do with foot size (says the guy with size 12s)....

he was a part of the planed invasion of Japan. He did not go into much detail(I do not know presicely what ship he was on) After Japan surrendered he sailed home during operation "magic carpet"...also Congrats on the new "ghost" we are all in this fight together!

Stupid site!

It never does that when I write something really profound or witty.

NOOOOOoooooooooooo....

Only when I write something totally banal.

GHOST STORIES

Normally a good ghost story sends chills down my spine, but this story warmed my heart. God bless your beautiful baby grandson.

He looks great GG...

...you know GG we're all past our prime and guys/gals our age can really just coast, bide our time, etc. But our parents/grandparents handed us off a great nation and legacy along with a good resilient economy.
But look what we're handing off to our offspring. Some sub-3rd world barrio of a nation. I agree GG, we have to fight on. We need to leave this little fellow something as good or better than what was left us. DD

Huh?... What's that you

say, Darv?

"you know GG we're all past our prime..."

Speak for yourself!

Speaking of

Government War Films.

I remember "Ol' Blue Eyes" was in a couple of the war films. I think they were about not security and not talking to strangers or some such. I just remember him in a short b&w government film...

Gray Ghost

First off, congrats on the new grandson. A fine looking lad indeed. As to fighting for them, what other reason COULD there be? We don't want them to have to live under an oppressive system run by a bunch of Ivy-League azs pimples.

Brian R

Yeah, foot size too. Jackie Kennedy had a size 12.
Which may be why JFK strayed.
Then I look at the big mouth on the gal that stars in "The Closer" and think......!!

Gray

He is a beautiful child. I can understand your determination. I too recently had a grandson born who was early and underweight but he fought and won and now doing wonderful. When my oldest son was born I was in the Navy and I vowed to protect him and all others in this great country. When my grandson was born, it made me remember that vow and now more than ever we need to fight for the future of our kids. With the biggest deficit in history our children and grandchildren will not be able to live a good a life as we did if we don't do something about it. Isn’t that the job of every parent and grandparent, to make life better for their kids then they had it?

Hahahaha, Buck!

You're baaaaaad...!

God Bless you my friend

I stand with you and our Nation.

Buck and BrianR

We are back to bragging again, and BTW BrianR I wear 12-1/2 wides.

Ray

Thanks for stopping by. Grandchildren are God's gift to us for not killing our children.

(At least my mother often says this. But I really never thought about what she meant in regards to me. Perhaps I should thank her more?)

BrianR

Actually I appreciate your multiple comments, even if TH caused the problem!

They help keep my numbers up at my site!

Patriot 76

I appreciate your info on your father. It is good to know what the generation before us did.

ApolloSpeaks

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the kind comments on my grandson.

DD

Thanks and you are correct. I am past my prime in a lot of ways, just not in those that can make me a dangerous "old" grizzly bear (i.e., experience, knowledge, etc.)

However, our friend BrianR does have a point (see his comment just below yours). I imagine that he loved Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in "Tombstone".

buck

"Old Blue Eyes" = Frank Sinatra?

I don't recall him in any government war films. If you remember the names, tell me.

clyde

"We don't want them to have to live under an oppressive system run by a bunch of Ivy-League azs pimples."

Amen.

And I got my masters at Union college in Schenectady, NY. It is a school generally thought of as "Ivy League".

buck

I didn't know Jackie O had big feet.

That explains alot.

sailor ray

"Isn’t that the job of every parent and grandparent, to make life better for their kids then they had it?"

According to everything I have read (including the Bible), it is.

Thanks for stopping by. I have been to your site and will be back.

Joe

Thanks, and thanks for stopping by.

GG

When I am deriding Ivy-Leaguers,think Harvard,Yale,Columbia,Princeton,et al,you know,the elitist schools.While Union is a fine institution,most don't think of it as being elitist.

LOL, Gray!

Always happy to he'p y'all out!

Gray Ghost

Excellent! I want to give my future kids the same opportunities I had, as well as my father did for me. I hope these kids come into a prospering country that gives them the freedom to obtain what they dream of through hard work and determination, not government programs. There's too much short term views by those that support this administration to forget the very problems they'll create in years down the road.

Guess I'll be a dad in 2010! Hopefully we can flush out congress as well!

Ghost

I became a great uncle ....again last year and I am soooo with you brother. The time is now...2010 and 2012 are just around the corner

G-Ghost

Don't remember the name of the movie but it was a training film. Been so long ago I don't even remember the subject. I just remember Sinatra dressed as a Pvt but wearing a Smokey Bear hat.... Thinking hard it might have been on Radio Discipline...

clyde

You should have seen me in my first course at Union. There were engineers from MIT, RPI, and other engineering universities in the Northeast.

And there was me from Mississippi State University.

The kidding was pretty universal; and it kinda got me alittle upset. I decided to make a "statement". I kept a 100 average in the class, regardless of the time it took. The final I finished in 30 minutes; and as I turned it in, I faced the class and announced that I was turning in another "100" test. I then said I was not considered one of Mississippi State's better engineering students.

The rest of the class got the message and I had no further kidding.

Eric

Congrats on the future birth of your child!

Be prepared for the hardest (and most important) job you ever took on. The best advice I can give you is contained throughout the Bible.

crossbow

Amen. The 2010 midterm elections are only a year away.

buck

I will check around on the internet when I get a chance. It sounds interesting.

Gray

Congrats! I've written a new blog, but don't go to my site, it's not there due to 'technical difficulties!' I've been emailing back & forth trying to figure out why it says 'DisAllowed HTML' every time I try to post. I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten everyone & the photos are precious!!

I have an explanation for my absence in my blog as soon as I can get it posted.
