Let Us Never Forget

As I read Adam's comments, I was thinking about the specific targets chosen by our attackers. The Pentagon, as Adam noted, a symbol of our military; the World Trade Center buildings, a symbol of our economic success; and the White House - a symbol of our political system and country as a whole. Interestingly, while the economic symbol was destroyed, and damage was done to our military symbol, the symbol of our country as a whole was unharmed. Why? Because of the bravery, will, and refusal to submit to evil by ordinary American citizens. I don't think there could be any greater testimony to the greatness of this country, or any clearer example of why this greatness exists - it is the collective strength of individual citizens. As a people, we may suffer difficult economic times, our military may be tested and suffer losses, and yet our country will continue to thrive as long as our citizens refuse to yield to evil. Confronting evil is never easy, but it can never be bargained with or appeased through complacency - it must be erradicated.
Let us remember the example of those amazing people on Flight 93, who were willing to sacrifice themselves for a greater good. This is the true strength of America, and the only way to ensure Her continued survival.
