Libby: Faith and Family are a package...
Your very timely question suggests that we truly are in a paradox of being Christians in a postChristian era. Such a concern would not have existed two generations ago.
I was provoked last year when a recent Lutheran ministerial graduate rather casually informed the dinner party that we were "in the post Christian Era of history."
Then he explained that his assessment was political. He was saying that we had lost our power to dominate; and as a result, secular institutions ruled us.
Though his church was being used by a feminist wife as a radical cell, i understood his insight.
"If we had maintained our Christian integrity," he explained,"we would exist in an integrated complex of God-Family-Church-king or queen, all infinitely balanced and functioning as a whole."
Hold on! Before you react in horror as i did, reflect on it awhile. i am still working on it. i have always loved Queen Elizabeth, but i certainly had never considered her monarchy in the light of Tuesday, November 4th.
Naaah. Absurd! Just having a little fun. Just brain storming. Maybe.
Good post.
Happy Trails.

Luke 14:26
You said it right. We as people can get blinded by what and who is important to us. Let us consider the way God tested Abraham. The Lord absolutely comes first, whether we do or don't understand, agree, believe, or don't even care. And He will let us know it! Look how He blessed Abraham after the test.
"Lord God, give us the grace to always, always, keep you first. For You are the giver of every blessing, including family, and our eternal security. Amen"
